Reach Out Elite Peer Mentor Program selects high-achieving mentors from elite universities and colleges in the United States. Through weekly online meetings, video recordings, experience sharing, and writings, mentors will play a crucial role in supporting not only the academic aspect but also the personal growth of the mentees.
Elite Peer Mentors will be the connecting bridge between students and their professional admission counselors. By building meaningful connections between the experienced mentors and motivated mentees, students receive guidance, encouragement, soft skills (including but not limited to communication, critical thinking, positive growth mindset, stress management, time management, social skills) development. The mentor will help to achieve personal, academic, and professional goals for the mentees, and the mentorship program aims to build strong, well-rounded, and successful students well beyond the classroom.
Responsibilities:
With students:
- Support students through the learning process and understanding the contents;
- Ensure students are making good progress;
- Assist students in improving time management, organizational, and study skills;
- Carry out regular assessment and homework, as well as grading policies and feedback;
- Subject-related personal community impact projects and/or research projects;
- Manage a roster of students with whom you will be working on a one-on-one basis.
With the company:
- Lead group admissions workshops and clinics for students and parents (if applies);
- Create recordings, videos, blog content, and other presentation methods for meaningful and authentic experience sharing;
- Brainstorm, research, and program personal projects;
- Collaborate as part of a team that includes other admission counselors and students’ elite Peer Mentors.
Qualifications:
- Passionate about education, have patience when connecting with students, and have the willingness to truly help students establish well-rounded development and make progress;
- Have experience applying and attending colleges and universities in the United States, and/or have working experiences in the field of education;
- Preferably STEM and related majors, other education-related majors are preferred as well;
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student;
- Excellent subject knowledge and deep content knowledge;
- A nuanced understanding of how grades, test scores, and the student’s broader academic and extracurricular portfolio relate to the admissions process;
- Capacity for independent learning and growth and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment;
- Attention to detail, with strong organizational skills;
- Tech-savvy, with expertise in using web-based tools to advise students;
- Available to work evenings and weekends, as needed;
- A "people" person who makes others feel at ease, supported, and reassured, and is engaging, flexible, and collaborative by nature.
Compensation is $30-$40 per hour.
