Hiring Rate:- $10,000 based on 9-month appointment for the academic year.
- 3-month summer appointment based on need.
- $1,100 each month.

Nature & Purpose of Position:2 positions available. 1 position to start June 1st, 1 position to start in August.
This role will support Peer Mentoring initiatives in First Year Experience under the guidance of the First-Year Experience Assistant Director. The FYE/Peer Mentoring Graduate Assistant will assist in training and program development for peer mentors who are embedded into UNIV 1101 courses. This position will work one-on-one and in group settings to promote academic success, student engagement, personal development, and meaningful connections with SHSU Faculty, Staff, and resources.Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support FYE peer mentors through developing in-class activities to promote student engagement
- Build and maintain peer mentor schedules including floor hours, offsite locations, and UNIV 1101 assignments
- Manage Campus Connect by inputting peer mentor appointment availabilities and verifying appointment Summary Report completion
- Create activities and trainings for weekly meetings with FYE peer mentors to aid with team building and ongoing peer mentor professional development
- Assist the welcome desk with tasks such as greeting guests, answering the FYE phone, checking in appointments, monitoring peer mentor appointments, and rescheduling appointments when necessary
- Contribute to the creation and design of digital media for course content, announcements, and events.
- Support various FYE departmental initiatives including, but not limited to GUIA training, progress report campaigns, call campaigns, registration assistance, convocation, new student orientation, SHSU common reader, etc.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director in interviewing, selecting, and onboarding peer mentors
- Other relevant duties as assigned

- Strong ability to discuss difficult or sensitive topics while maintaining rapport and trust with students
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to seek consultation with supervisor and colleagues
- Strong attention to detail
- Effective time management & self-initiative
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (in person, virtually, and telephone)
- Computer Skills (familiarity with Office 365 applications, Zoom, Blackboard, Canva or other design software)
