The Peer Mentor is an entry-level role that works to build support for Buffalo Futures and serves as a bridge between participants and the program, services, and pathways that serve to reconnect them with education and employment. The Peer Mentor will provide guidance, motivation, and emotional support to youth and young adults between the ages of 16–24-years-old to enhance the mentees’ professional performance and development. This role works closely with all staff of Buffalo Futures and The Service Collaborative to deepen community relationships and strengthen ongoing multi-year neighborhood connections, with a goal to achieve greater impact among the individuals and families we serve, with a strong focus on our BIPOC communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, meet, and network with potential Buffalo Futures partners.
  • Maintains weekly follow-up visits and services for program participants.
  • Assist with community engagement efforts for Buffalo Futures in all facets of the organization’s work through internal programming and external relationships.
  • Serve as a representative for outreach engagements and programming.
  • Assist with identifying long-term community impact goals and steps needed to achieve the desired outcomes for youth.
  • Conduct outreach to “opportunity youth” to get them enrolled in a reengagement pathway, and to provide ongoing support.
  • Develop relationships with schools and community organizations that service disconnected youth and young adults; proactively seek to generate referrals.
  • Follows procedures regarding documentation and confidentiality.
  • Other duties as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED is required. Bachelors degree, Associates degree or some college coursework is preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in community outreach, re-engagement programs, or otherwise working with youth in the age range of 16-24 years old is required.
  • Experience working with MS Office software is required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $19.81 per hour
