Salary: $40,000-$46,000, commensurate with experience

Hours: Monday - Friday ; 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM
This is a higher-level accounting position assisting the payroll supervisor in processing payroll in accordance with Board policy, collective bargaining agreements, and legal regulations. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Principal Account Clerk/Typist with leeway given for independent decision making after a successful period of training and experience. Performs other duties as required.
- Verifies paperwork for budget codes, authorizations, dates and hours worked, pay rates, demographic information and updating tax, retirement and deduction information;
- Enters payroll data in custom software, entry of timesheets, substitute transactions, deduction changes, budget code changes, and activations of approved salaries;
- Facilitates the payroll proofing process;
- Prepares letters to staff for salary changes and garnishments;
- Calculates substitute dues, verifies payroll error reports, verifies distribution reports, calculates and verifies garnishments;
- Creates warrant in custom software for payroll related payments (dues, taxes, 403b, garnishments, net payroll, etc.), payroll warrant and checks;
- Processes unemployment claim information and communicates with TPA-People Systems;
- Reports to the Department of Labor, Employees and Teachers Retirement System, NYS Department of Taxation and IRS;
- Communicates daily with Benefits, HR, program offices, outside agencies, as well as employees and substitutes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of an associate degree in accounting, business administration or closely related field OR
- Graduation from high school and two (2) years of payroll, accounting or financial record keeping experience.

Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for Washington County to obtain a permanent appointment.
