JOB PURPOSE
SCADA Engineering is seeking an engineering intern to support our Wind Turbine SCADA / BOP SCADA engineering team. This role will gain and provide hands on experience in renewable energy with exposure to various SCADA systems, Substation controllers and Relays, technical functions, including root cause analysis, troubleshooting, Turbine Fiber Optics network, and data systems & reporting. This engineering intern will develop knowledge of Renewable Energy SCADA Systems and best practices in the renewable energy industry.
This position will support work that is responsible for the development and administration of power plant SCADA systems, overlays and other business intelligence solutions for the Pattern Fleet. Work duties include troubleshooting networks/ communication issues among SCADA systems, creating and organizing engineering documentation, reviewing control logic modifications, and assisting with design improvement opportunities.
Key Accountabilities
- Interact with SCADA engineers on day-to-day SCADA Support issues.
- Close collaboration with Pattern Real Time control teams to organize modifications/upgrades.
- Hands on experience with Substation protocols such as Modbus, DNP 3.0, Turbine communication protocols such as OPC DA, UA, HDA, XML. Campell Scientific CR1000 MET logger programming such as Loggernet.
- Assist with IESO Syncrophasor project deployments in Ontario.
- Assist with controller hardware and software upgrades.
- Participate in meetings with internal/external clients, if required.
- Respond to information requests from internal stakeholders.
- Other projects as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications/Education Required
- Working towards a bachelor's degree in computer science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or in a related area, having completed 3 years of course work.
- Basic understanding of communication protocols, MS Windows platform, MS SQL server.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to express ideas effectively and fluently.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and independent work ethic are essential.
- Ability to synthesize and organize large amounts of data.
- Ability to organize time well and set proper priorities.
