Job Description
We are looking for a thorough Maintenance Technician to maintain the facility and grounds, keeping them in good repair in compliance with all applicable codes. You will perform maintenance tasks of great variety such as painting, minor snow removal (snow blower, salt, shoveling), maintaining emergency lights and exit signs, changing filters in HVAC system, etc. A Maintenance Technician is a thorough professional with a practical mind and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be able to work on their own while staying on task, responsibly observing all health and safety guidelines. The goal is to maintain the buildings and common areas in the best possible condition.
Responsibilities
- Survey buildings and repair mechanical systems to ensure they are consistent with health and safety standards
- Perform maintenance of electrical systems (replace light bulbs and sockets, clean and repair circuit breaker panels etc.)
- Maintain heating and plumbing systems to ensure functionality
- Inspect alarm systems (fire, protection) and schedule repairs when needed
- Perform manual repairs when necessary (fix locks, replace windows etc.)
- Conduct general upkeep procedures (e.g. landscaping) and other tasks as assigned (painting, carpentry etc.)
Skills
- Proven experience as Maintenance Technician
- Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating and other systems
- Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
- Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices
- Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills
- Is flexible, open to new ideas and learning, enjoys completing projects and high quality of work.
- Able to work alone and stay on task, and also working well with other departments such as nursing, kitchen, administration, etc.
- Must be able to display tact, empathy and good judgment in dealing with situations involving our residents, visitors, staff, etc.
- Good physical condition and strength. Able to climb ladders when needed.
- Has a pleasant manner, good grooming and hygiene.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience working in long term care is a plus, but not required.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday 7-3:30 or 8-4:30
- hours could vary outside of normal schedule due to snow removal or issues that need immediate attention outside of normal working hours
- Pay Depends on Experience.
