Position Summary
This position is responsible for assisting the professional legal staff in the office by performing moderately complex legal secretarial work, meeting statutory and court requirements and deadlines.

NOTE: This is a Limited Term position that is currently approved through a period ending on December 31, 2024.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
Assist callers and visitors by answering routine questions, departmental and court procedures and services, and case information.
Assist and inform law enforcement agencies of proper court and departmental procedures and follow up on required paperwork.
Review arrest reports from law enforcement agencies for accuracy and completeness for prosecutors to make charging decisions. Determine and request additional information if necessary.
Data enter arrest, person, and case information submitted from arrest reports and traffic citations submitted by law enforcement agencies into the District Attorney case management/tracking system and assign DA case numbers.
Compose, draft, and prepare correspondence, court documents, pleadings, legal documents, and other materials from verbal and/or written instructions.
Review incoming mail, police reports, and court notices and take appropriate action.
Locate files and maintain calendar for office appointments and court hearings. Arrange and organize files for court calls.
Type criminal and civil jury instructions.
Research and interpret the traffic and criminal codes of the Wisconsin State Statutes.
Request, read, and interpret criminal records, driving records, and vehicle information from federal and state agencies.
Coordinate the scheduling and rescheduling of court hearings through the Clerk of Courts Office, and with defense attorneys and other case parties.
Prepare, maintain, and track case files, assisting prosecutors in meeting statutory and court deadlines and assuring offenders comply with court-imposed deadlines.
Reserve laboratory analysts and prepare subpoenas for court hearings and trials when necessary.
Coordinate and prepare writs for the transport of defendants and witnesses to court for hearings and trials, or assist in setting up videoconferencing.
Provide backup to Legal Secretary II and Administrative Clerk I's.
Train and oversee Administrative Clerk I's and interns. Assist with questions about and clarification of departmental and court procedures, case information, and preparing legal documents.
Testify in court when necessary.
Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.
