QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma.
2. Typing accuracy of 50 wpm.
3. Minimum of two years of secretarial training or related experience.
4. Word processing and data base skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Listening and speaking skills.
2. Moving and lifting of materials, supplies, etc.
3. Operating office equipment.
4. Reaching high and low shelving and/or files.
5. Visually observing individuals.
REPORTS TO: Building principal.
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB GOAL:
To effectively maintain the school office and implement building secretarial duties as determined by District 44 guidelines and the building principal.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists the principal in the effective operation of the office and school and, in the absence of the principal, responds appropriately to needs so as to maintain the school program.
2. Maintains the confidential aspect of the office.
3. Is familiar with the policies, procedures and deadlines as established by the principal and district.
4. Assists administrative secretary with clerical and secretarial tasks related to the responsibilities of the principal and assistant principal if one is employed for the building (including purchase orders, budgeting, curriculum).
5. Assists with compiling reports concerning daily attendance, enrollment, transportation, safety, cumulative folders, school pictures, etc.
6. Aids injured and ill students as appropriate and contacts paramedics, school nurse and/or parent or guardian if necessary.
7. Performs clerical and secretarial tasks for teachers and other staff members, as time permits, or as directed by the principal.
8. Performs secretarial duties as related to effective routine office procedures (mail distribution, filing, machine operation, time records, field trip arrangements).
9. Creates a pleasant, helpful atmosphere to all who have occasion to contact the school office.
10. Communicates politely with students, parents, citizens and all District 44 employees.
11. Practices the public relations aspect of the job.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned by the principal.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Hired for 4 hours per day.
2. Hired for up to 210 days per year.
3. Salary as established by the board of education.
EVALUATION:
Performance is evaluated by the building principal.
