The Role:
The Packaging Engineer will focus on driving operational performance for Logistics, Manufacturing and Supply Chain. The Packaging Engineer takes inputs from multiple stakeholders, understanding supply chain & manufacturing constraints to develop a robust solution to ship components & sub-assemblies.
As the Packaging Engineer, you will work closely with GM Defense Purchasing to optimize total enterprise cost solutions. This involves a prominent level of independent judgment, strategic vision, detailed analysis, technical understanding of manufacturing process, and outstanding communication skills. The Packaging Engineer will also be the first point of contact for container flow issues and will support the best enterprise solution to maintain production at both the assembly plants and part suppliers.
What You'll Do:
Develop packaging plans (expendable and returnable) to support component shipping.
Maintain packaging data within GM Defense systems
Analyze current packaging to identify potential improvements and work with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Part Supplier and Purchasing to implement
Develop and maintain expendable specifications for GM Defense that incorporate government regulations, low volume strategies and long-term storage requirements
Develop and support a Container Return/Flow process for GM Defense
Remove roadblocks and resolve issues related to packaging concerns
Develop and maintain container fleet size
Support Special Projects as required
Support Program Launch Activities
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain or equivalent education
2+ years of work experience in Packaging and/or Supply Chain management
Ability to lead problem solving activities and manage project timelines
Capability to concurrently manage multiple cost savings operational improvement projects and initiatives
Ability to analyze basic financial data and identify cost drivers

Role subject to U.S. export control restrictions. Successful candidates must either be a U.S. Person (defined by U.S. law as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) or a non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge:
Previous Purchasing experience
Deep Understanding/knowledge of material flow, material department operations, manufacturing processes and departmental relationships
Ability to quickly understand a wide variety of vehicle and engineering technologies, including both hardware and software within the automotive industry
Ability to interpret and /or understand financial data
