Job Description
The Packaging Engineer will lead packaging projects that include the commercialization of new products, cost savings initiatives, and packaging improvements on existing products.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop packaging solutions for products, ensuring they meet quality, cost, and efficiency requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and specifications for packaging design.
- Meet or beat project KPI's, cost, completion date, and ROI.
- Developed new packaging die lines, specifications, machine settings, packing procedures, and standards to commercialize new company products properly.
- Coordinate and execute experiments and packaging trials; prepare results in technical reports, both written and oral.
- Assist in the development of bills of materials for new products.
- Design test plans and leverage suppliers and other external resources to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions for project issues.
- Evaluate and recommend more efficient packing procedures, innovations in packaging materials, and utilization of automation where financially justifiable.
- Work with Plant Operations and Suppliers to troubleshoot packaging issues, maintain packaging quality, and optimize packing line efficiencies.
- Develop and improve procedures and instructions to minimize packing line setup and changeover time/cost.
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost analysis to determine the most effective packaging materials and methods.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in packaging, chemical, or food processing.
- 2-5 years of experience in engineering.
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas, concepts, and procedures to all levels within the organization, from employees on the factory floor to peers on cross-functional teams to senior management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, on time, and on budget with minimal guidance from the manager.
- Excellent computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- AutoCAD. Strong mechanical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles
- Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks, for 3D modeling and design
- Experience in Salesforce and Project Management tools is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
