Job Description
- Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications, dimensions, tolerances, and tooling instructions.
- Create tools and components following blueprints.
- Operate machines to grind, cut, and polish materials.
- Finish projects using manual tools.
- Inspect and maintain equipment for optimal performance.
- Set up and operate various machine tools (lathes, milling machines, boring machines, grinders) for machining and fabricating metallic and nonmetallic workpieces.
- Position and secure tools and workpieces in holding devices.
- Monitor operations, adjusting feeds, speeds, and depth of cut as needed.
- Perform MIG welding as required.
- Handle hazardous waste generated in the work area.
- Additional duties and assignments as directed.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma with 5+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong math skills, including decimals, percentages, fractions, ratios, measurement, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- MIG welding is required, and specialized welding certifications a plus.
- Proficiency in using measuring instruments (calipers, gauges, etc.).
- Familiarity with internal processes, procedures, and policies.
- Ability to use hand tools and operate jib cranes and forklifts independently.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven self-organization skills.
- Physical ability to walk, sit, stand, crouch, and lift up to 75 lbs.
- Willingness to work overtime during extended weekday hours, plant shutdowns, or on weekends/call rotation.
- Machinist vocational certificate or completed industry apprenticeship.
- Manual dexterity.
- Lathe machining experience.
- Blueprint reading skills.
