Job Description
Azimuth Corporation is hiring for a talented Optics Research Scientistto join our Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) team in Dayton, OH. The ideal candidate will focus on optical measuring and characterization of materials, optical systems, subsystems, and coatings in relation to laser light interaction, broad spectrum, VIS/NIR to LWIR. Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist in developing experiments for conducting optical or radiation measurement surface or optical system components or systems. Support the use of and, calibration, alignment, and maintenance of laser and broadband scatterometers.
- Support the preparation, custom mounting, and alignment of sample materials for collection of data during optical measurement tasks.
- Support design, procurement, and assembly of mechanical systems and modifications to specialized test equipment for optical measurements.
- Assist in the measuring of polarized bidirectional reflectance and bidirectional transmittance distribution function (BRDF/BTDF)
- Operation of UV-VIS-NIR and IR spectrometers, surface-roughness testers, light section microscopes, and digital coating-thickness gauges.
- Capable of the operation, maintenance, and calibration of the UV-VIS-NIR and IR spectrometers, surface-roughness tester, light section microscope, and digital coating-thickness gauge.
- Conduct emittance measurements using the FTIR spectrometer/radiometer.
- Support troubleshooting and repair of laboratory equipment specifically electronics.
- Assist in the design and build of new electronic components for use in optical measurement and/or material characterization.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Physics, Optics or related field OR 10+ years supporting optics lab.
- Experience in a laboratory/research environment is required.
- Experience with lab software such as MatLab
- Exceptional teamwork and communication skills.
- Secret Clearance Required.
Physical Requirements / Travel
- Must be able to work in a laboratory environment and lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to work in an office environment at a desk using a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
- May travel up to 10% of the year to attend research conferences, program reviews, industry meetings, or other collaborative events. Most or all requisite travel will be in the CONUS (Continental United States).
- Hybrid on-site and local remote telework scheduling options available.
