Operations Manager

Lead a team of Operators and Mechanic(s) who service the PBF refinery by safely handling petroleum coke from refinery operations to shipping.

 

Responsibilities / Job Duties:

  • Will be a hands-on Supervisor, working alongside team members as they perform their operating duties, balancing time between in-field and office work (60% / 40%)
  • Review paperwork submitted by team for accuracy and thoroughness
  • Lead in safety by setting an example, establishing consistent procedures, conducting training, praising safe behavior and correcting unsafe acts, building a culture of safety, establishing and training on identified critical risks, and taking an active role in the daily safety briefing
  • Plan and organize the crew so they can be productive and meet the needs of the customer
  • Communicate with the General Manager on any operational problems or issues
  • Direct team to perform preventative maintenance to conveyor systems used to transport the product throughout the refinery such as greasing rollers and inspections as well as directing maintenance with large maintenance projects
  • Monitor the control panel of the coke operating system to ensure proper inventory levels, safe product movement, and appropriate moisture content per EPA regulations
  • Transport petroleum coke throughout the refinery by operating a system of conveyor belts, condenser and pug mills
  • Maintain all paperwork and logs for the Coke Operation
  • Oversee general Coke area maintenance including but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping, minor railcar repair such as replacing safety chains, and other maintenance activities
  • Take an active role in safety program including attendance to all safety meetings, adhere to procedures and ensure safe behaviors of self and coworkers
  • Communicate with Logistics Team regarding railcar movements
  • Complete paperwork accurately
  • Manage the Coke Mechanic(s) and Operators hours
  • Lead Manager Plus for the Coke Operation, Opening and closing workorders to meet the unit KPI's
  • Own the Asset Management and Maintenance measures in S7
  • Manage inventory for all operating equipment and assets (filter, oil, parts, critical parts, etc....)
  • Oversee general Coke area maintenance including but not limited to cleaning, housekeeping, all other 5S activities, and minor railcar repair such as replacing safety chains as well as other maintenance activities  

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Subject matter expert operating loading equipment in the coke barn per Savage operating procedures
  • Example of safe railroad operations
  • Basic computer skills: data entry, email, review reports 
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision 
  • Positive attitude and a good team member
  • Able to load trucks with petroleum coke per DOT weight specifications
  • Able to operate 966 CAT loader and skid steer to manage stockpile of petroleum coke
  • Able to operate a shuttle wagon to safely position railcars for loading, weighing and shipment
  • Able to operate the rail load out control system
  • Monitor the control panel of the coke operating system to ensure proper inventory levels, safe product movement, and appropriate moisture content per EPA regulations
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, reference checks, drug screen, motor-vehicle report and criminal background check
  • Must possess or qualify for a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card) 
  • Must be able to attend and pass all test associated with job related coursework. This includes, but it not limited to: OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses
  • Able to reliably fulfill a set rotational schedule (days, nights, holiday's, 24/7/365 as needed)
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in written form
  • Subject matter expert operating loading equipment in the coke barn per Savage operating procedure and yellow equipment cardinal rules
  • Build professional relationships and worry-free customer service
  • Have a strong understanding of CMMS programs 

Education/Experience:

  • 3 to 5 years operating in an industrial environment
  • Minimum 5 years Savage experience
  • A high school diploma, or equivalent
  • Current/valid driver license 
  • Ability to become a Savage Safety Specialist and/or Lead Safety Specialist
  • Ability to become an AI/QI
  • Ability to attend and pass New Hire Rail Course

Fitness for Duty:

  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions: extreme wind, rain, snow, cold, heat, etc.
  • Comfortable working from extreme heights, over 100-feet
  • Able to crawl under rail cars and work in tight spaces
  • Able to stand on their feet for long periods of time, up to 4-hours
  • Able to pass a respirator fit test
  • Must be able handle large hand tools and lift 50 lbs.
