Functional area: Consulting; Process Management 

Remuneration: Exempt

The Operational Excellence Manager will implement Operational Excellence (OE) across RWE Clean Energy and drive performance improvement “on the ground”, guaranteeing sustainability and creating a strong continuous improvement (CI) culture. This role reports to the Director of Operational Excellence and will cover the Operations, Asset Management, and Engineering groups. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead CI initiatives aimed at developing and delivering the current and future state vision and transformational performance improvement
  • Lead operations teams to identify problems and actively work on identifying root causes and solutions
  • Identify and actively work to remove barriers to transformational change
  • Develop high-quality training materials, codify best practices, and contribute to building the RWE Clean Energy OE Approach Playbook
  • Diagnose the current state of the sites' problems and build a robust fact base to explain improvement opportunities and quantify their potential
  • Develop a robust future state vision/roadmap, that will deliver breakthrough performance improvement
  • Select appropriate tools to address the opportunities identified and put together a realistic implementation plan that delivers high impact in a short time frame
  • Implement the future state transformation and ensure maximum value is captured, in the dimension of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC)
  • Ensure implementation plans are managed against progress and that delays and blockages are actively flagged, to deliver on time and with quality
  • Ensure SQDC impact generated is approved and accurately tracked in the relevant database
  • Support the translation of strategic group objectives into concrete objectives per site, region, or department (i.e.: build a connected performance management system from Board level to frontline)
  • Train, coach, challenge, and support business stakeholders at all levels of the organization to develop competence in Continuous improvement (CI)/ Operational Excellence (OE) / Lean practices
  • Develop full buy-in of the local leadership team at every step of the process
  • Implement CI best practice sharing across allocated clients, within the region, and in North America
  • Organise GEMBA walks/Go See Engage for senior Leaders
  • Identify and support the nomination of local CI Champions, and help develop them into the future local CI leaders of the sites/teams

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in implementing and promoting Continuous improvement / Operational Excellence (OE) / Lean practices / Lean Management within large-size corporations 
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or Business Administration or equivalent, Masters Degree is a plus
  • Previous expertise in the implementation of the typical OE tools: SMED, Kaizen, 5S, Problem Solving, Gemba walk, A3, Agile, Push, Pull, Takt (and cycle) time, Visual Management, waste, variability, VSM, MIFA, etc.
  • Green / Black belt / Lean certifications preferred 
  • Ability to develop themselves and support others in their development to their full potential
  • Proactive self-starter requiring minimal guidance and ability to meet deadlines, drive the projects and stakeholders, increase performance, and deliver results
  • A “will do / can do” perseverant approach and a “hands-on” mentality 
  • People-oriented, and continuously take a high-energy, data-driven approach to solving complex problems
  • Capable of communicating effectively verbally, visually, and quantitatively, plus analytical and consultive skills
  • Experience in the Renewables industry is a plus
  • The role involves a minimum of 60% travel to the Wind and Solar parks, so flexibility and a willingness to travel is a must
