Primary Objective
FULL TIME TEMPORARY POSITION
The City of Bloomington is seeking an individual to provide office administration to the Office of Racial, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (OREIB). Will assist the Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer (CEIO) in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs, events, and activities designed to educate and promote cultural awareness and understanding of systemic racism to achieve fair and equitable outcomes to advance further the City of Bloomington's Equity and Inclusion strategic priorities.

Examples of Duties
Administrative Assistance - 50%
  • Manage the CEIO calendar and schedule appointments.
  • Prepare the CEIO for meetings by assembling and distributing materials. Anticipate, manage, and follow through on projects in a timely manner.
  • Compile and coordinate data and prepares reports, plans, meeting minutes, surveys, presentations, and other support documents related to City equity initiatives.
  • Work closely with program directors, department chairs, and administrative assistants to facilitate the work of the Office of Racial Equity Inclusion and Belonging.
  • Assists with maintaining a detailed tracking system to evaluate program or project effectiveness, establishing improvement goals, and providing progress reports to the team.
  • Providing administrative assistance, such as writing and editing e-mails, drafting memos, and preparing communications on the executive's behalf.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records.
  • Perform minor accounting duties.
  • Organizing meetings, including scheduling, sending reminders, and organizing catering when necessary.
  • Answering phone calls politely and professionally.

Program Support - 30%
  • Assist the Director with equity initiatives for recruiting, hiring, onboarding, retention, and employee engagement.
  • Perform research related to the department's operations and the needs of the City.
  • Supports the development and launch of new programs and policy initiatives.
  • Assists in designing and implementing strategies with the Communications Department to enhance effectiveness and align with the mission of the MORE Office via publications, media releases, articles, web content, social media, brochures, forms, and various materials for associated committees.
  • Respond to rapid research requests into program and service areas.

Community Engagement - 20%
  • Cultivate relationships with organizations that are led by and/or serve BIPOC individuals.
  • Seek opportunities to uplift lived experience and strengthen ties with advocates.
  • Solicit community input and engagement through forums, surveys, interviews, focus groups, courageous conversations, and other methodologies, either directly or through community-based participatory research.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with community organizations, residents, business community, non-profit organizations, and government agencies.

Minimum/Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Three years of general office, administrative assistance, or program assistance experience (relative internship experience can apply).
  • Three years of work experience in racial equity, inclusion, and belonging (relative internship experience can apply).
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Direct experience working on racial, income, health, or other equity-related issues.
  • Connections/relationships with Bloomington non-profits and cultural organizations
  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee communities.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Data analytics training or experience.
  • Experience providing data-informed presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Serve as the staff liaison on projects to improve equity in the organization.
  • Experience in grant writing and/or program development.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills sufficient to establish working relationships with local, state, and federal government agencies.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff in their support of REAT work plan development and use of racial equity tools.
  • Ability to speak a second language, in addition to English that has a recognized presence in the community. (Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Chinese Mandarin, Cambodian, etc.)

Anticipated Hiring Range: $28.48 - $30.21 Hourly
2023 Full Salary Range: $28.48 - $37.96 Hourly
