Main Purpose of Job

This position is to serve as the Office Manager to the Director of Office of Nutrition Assistance Programs at the Department of Human Services. Primary responsibilities include providing technical assistance and administrative support for the management of all programs administered by the Office of Nutrition Assistance Programs. The position serves as a conduit between DHS executive staff, local department of social services staff, FIA management staff and community groups and advocates and the Office of Nutrition Assistance Program Director.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Reviews and assists in the development of department policies and programs;manages complex, high priority, and time-sensitive projects, as needed.
  • Carries out instructions from the Director including task and project assignments to appropriate staff; maintain standards and controls for ensuring assignments and projects are completed correctly and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Schedules meetings, compiles agendas and records meeting minutes; tracks reporting deadlines, assists with scheduling and maintains databases as needed.
  • Promotes the work of the department through frequent contact with interested groups and individuals; responds on behalf of the Office of Nutrition Assistance Programs to inquiries from other Executive Staff, local Directors of the Department of Social Services, and directors of other state agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

One year experience using Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
One year experience communicating with internal and external customers.
One year of experience working in Family Investment Programs.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

  • Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date).
  • Annual Leave - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.
  • Sick Leave - fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year.
  • Parental Leave - up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.
  • Holidays - State employees also celebrate at least twelve (12) holidays per year.
  • Pension - State employees earn credit towards a retirement pension.
  • Positions may be eligible for telework.
