This position is temporary, seasonal, at-will, and part-time working fewer than 950 hours per fiscal year and is not eligible for City/MESA benefits.
About the Department
The Community Services Department is comprised of three divisions: Community Services Administration, Youth and Adult Services, and the Child Development Center. As a department, we take pride in the quality and variety of services we provide to the community and seek individuals who can contribute. This position will be working at the Emeryville Senior Center and the hours are mornings to early afternoon.
The Nutrition Specialist (Recreation Leader), under general supervision, coordinates all meal programs through the Senior Center. This includes our daily congregate meals, MOW (Meals on Wheels) delivery service for homebound seniors, Mercy Brown Bag grocery program. Works together with partner, City of Berkeley, to organize and report meal statistics, organizes all documents, submits weekly meal counts, in-home assessments of future MOW (Meals on Wheels) clients, and other reports required for funding.

- Meal intake and oversees the packaging of MOW (Meals on Wheels) for delivery.
- Manages, trains and recruits volunteers for meal programs including MOW (Meals on Wheels) delivery and kitchen lunch service daily.
- Organize and report out monthly to City of Berkeley (COB) for required meal counts. Schedule weekly meal service counts with City of Berkeley (COB).
- Pulling statistics from database for monthly meal counts and service.
- Maintain and store equipment and supplies.
- Interact with seniors for various meal programs. Friendly disposition and helpful demeanor.
- MBB (Mercy Brown Bag) meal program - coordinates with MBB (Mercy Brown Bag) staff for grocery give away.
- Delivery for MOW (Meals on Wheels) as a back for volunteers. Valid CDL (California Driver's License) required.
Team participation in Senior Center events and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age. There are no educational requirements for this position; however, excellent customer service, ability to work with multiple people for various volunteer roles, flexibility to work with senior center staff for special events.
Licenses and Certifications
A valid California Driver's License, with a satisfactory driving record may be required.
A current First Aid certification is preferred.
Physical Qualifications
Eyesight sufficient to read data, memos, spreadsheets, vouchers, and computer screens; manual dexterity to operate a personal computer; ability to sit for extended periods; ability to stand, walk, bend, reach above and below the shoulders, and lift and carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds; and able to work flexible hours and special events.
