ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Develops and implements a working knowledge and database of Health & Nutrition services provided to children enrolled in the Head Start program; working knowledge of service providers in the community in order to refer Head Start families for screenings, preventive care, diagnosis and treatment as needed; arranges for/facilitates appointments for health care and follows up to ensure participation in health care.
  2. Communicates with parents and caregivers regarding the physical care and development of the child; makes home visits to encourage and support their use of medical, dental, and mental health services; counsels parents/caregivers concerning family health problems and refers them to community, educational, health and nutritional agencies as appropriate.
  3. Develops and implements accurate and complete documentation of Head Start health and nutrition program activities to ensure compliance with contracts.
  4. Identifies potential partnership agreements with community agencies for support and services to ECS children, families and programs.
  5. Participates in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and Health, Nutrition and/or Disabilities Service Area meetings with staff, teachers, community members and/or parents.
  6. Serves as a liaison with community programs that provide health and nutrition-related services to ECS and other low-income families.
  7. Works collaboratively with other service area staff to ensure screenings and observations are conducted, record-keeping requirements are met, and feedback is provided to staff.
  8. Participates in planning and/or convening the Health Services Advisory Committee. Participates in annual refunding applications, budgets, program area plans, program self-assessment and community assessment.
  9. Follows up with families and caregivers to ensure child is up-to-date on age-appropriate preventive and primary health and nutrition care; sets and maintains comprehensive documentation of compliance.
  10. Uses independent judgment and discretion to work with public and private health and nutrition providers to address community health issues that exist in ECS children and families.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 1-2 years of experience working in the health and nutrition field with children.
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutritional sciences, child maternal health, or a related field
    required.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possesses a valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
  • Working knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Required to travel extensively (> 50% of the time).
  • Spanish/ English bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Maintains patient privacy, including protecting the confidentiality, safeguarding the integrity and availability, and limiting the use and disclosure of patient Protected Health Information (PHI) to authorized individuals and entities.
  • Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.
  • Sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Punctual and dependable attendance.
  • Free from alcohol and drug abuse.
  • Understands CII’s basic philosophy and participates fully in carrying out its mission.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • None required.

  • Covid-19 Vaccine and booster - Due to the recent mandate issued by The Governor’s Office and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), all CII staff must be vaccinated against Covid-19 by date of hire. 
  • Compliance with the organization’s requirements surrounding influenza, MMR, and TDAP immunizations.
  • Background fingerprint clearance from the California Department of Social Services.

    COMPENSATION:

    • The salary for this role is $55,640 per year. ($26.75 per hour)
    • In accordance with CA law, the expected pay range for this CA position is posted with this position.  The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
