Designs, installs, manages, and maintains the Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, VoIP, VPN networks in a cost-effective manner. Ensures that data networks are reliable, high performing, and flexible for use by all of the college. Staying current with, learns, and applies new technologies and existing knowledge to ensure system reliability. Acts a primary organizational interface with network related vendors and provides internal support for IT network, infrastructure and risk management tools. Ensures and maintains the confidentiality of MHCC networks and data.
Essential Duties:
- Designs, installs, maintains and manages the equipment needed to provide WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, VoIP, VPN networks in a cost-effective manner. Ensures a high level of availability, flexibility and network performance.
- Acts as a primary VoIP engineer to provide maintenance, administration and configuration of the MHCC telecommunications systems.
- Maintains, audits, and updates infrastructure documentation.
- Enhances and maintains an up to date network disaster recovery plan.
- Performs copper/fiber patching and cross connection for voice/data MACD's.
- Maintains and increases the security levels of all data networks within MHCC.
- Communicates to the Manager of Infrastructure the status of the network systems when there are problems.
- Works with vendors to resolve problems and represent MHCC.
- Provides input into procedures and policies maximizing information accessibility and protecting confidentiality and data integrity.
- Projects and recommends information resource requirements, including personnel, equipment, and housing with associated costs, and assists in coordinating with the planning and budgeting cycle of the College
- Acts as project manager for special projects related to network.
- Works with MHCC staff and faculty to resolve problems that are reported to the Infrastructure team in a professional, customer oriented, and rapid manner.
- Attends and participates in project, operational, and other team meetings.
Additional Duties:
- May require before and after-hours flexibility and on-call response for emergencies..
Education: Associate's degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field
Experience/Training:
- Minimum (3) years of experience supporting a PC based network environment with comparable systems, including at least two (2) years as a Network Administrator
- Current, valid driver's license and the ability to be insured by the College insurance carrier. Must have at least three (3) years of driving history
- Must have CCNA certification, equivalent or higher
- Intermediate level skills with VoIP technologies
- Intermediate level skills in Windows, Linux and OSx environments
- Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office including Visio
- Intermediate level skills with Fiber Optic and Copper cabling technologies
- Intermediate level skills with network testing and monitoring (Fluke, Wireshark, Nmap, SolarWinds)
- Intermediate level skills with ACL's, Firewalls, IPS/IDS and security best practices
- Intermediate level skills with network routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)
- Intermediate level skills in Routing and Switching (Cisco IOS, NX-IOS, IOS-XR)
At the college's discretion, additional qualifying education/experience may substitute for experience/education on a year-for-year basis.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field
- Cisco CCNP (routing and switching preferred)
- VMWare VCP-NV preferred
- CompTia Security+, CEH, CISSP certifications
- Familiarity with ITIL service management
- Experience training in both small group and one-on-one situations
- Intermediate level skills with scripting languages (Python, Perl, BASH, PowerShell)
- Well-developed written, verbal communication skills
- Technical skills necessary to present and exchange technical information
- Must be able to develop plans/goals, solve problems, interpret data, and formulate recommendations to management.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently as needed
Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed while sitting at a computer terminal with occasional physical demands such as working in electrical rooms, crawling under desks, lifting and/or carrying equipment, and using hand tools.Salary:
Initial salary placement will be based on years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Handbook or Collective Bargaining Agreement.
