The Network Engineer will serve as a senior technical level contributor role in the IT organization. This position will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting all layers of network infrastructure across all locations. You will be part of a US based Information Technology team, reporting to the CTO in Minneapolis, responsible for supporting and growing the overall Technology landscape across all companies and locations. The Network Engineer will also serve to mentor and assist in cross-training and developing other members of the IT team, to become more proficient in supporting network infrastructure technologies and modern concepts. This role will be the lead in designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures that meet business objectives and SLAs.
Responsibilities- Define and design the overall company subnet and routing architecture
- Assist the CTO in defining future strategies for LAN, WAN, Wlan, with respect to future technology evolutions
- Configure and install various network infrastructure components and services (e.g., routers, switches, WAPs, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, etc.)
- Perform proactive network maintenance, system upgrades, and security prevention tactics, including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security monitoring and automation.
- Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
- Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
- Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues as an escalation point to other IT staff
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
- Make recommendations and help the CTO select and implement network and security tools, policies, and procedures
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
- Assist in general IT troubleshooting as needed
The Network Engineer works with IT peers in IT Support roles as a technical lead for all support and projects related to network technologies. The Network Engineer reports to the CTO and will work with IT and business leadership to define requirements, network strategies and plans. The Network Engineer will be asked to mentor IT peers in developing level 1-2 support and best practices related to network infrastructure technologies. The Network Engineer will be asked to work with network vendors and partners as the Liasson to IT.
Qualifications and Education Requirements- 10+ years IT experience
- 8-10+ years' experience focused on network technologies (layers 1-3)
- Team focused and self-motivated
- Proficient in network design tools and visual documentation
- Proven hands-on networking engineering and support
- Strong in ideation and problem solving
- Future looking approach, and aptitude to learn and adopt evolving technologies
- Knowledgeable in Wlan and firewall technology platforms
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
- CCNP or equivalent and higher (CCIE and/or other technology platform certifications valued)
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
- Expertise in TCP/IP, subnetting, routing and WAN
- Experience with a wide range of switching platforms a plus (Juniper/Mist, Cisco, Arista, Aerohive, HP, etc.)
- Ability to create and provide detailed solution designs and plans
- Experience with Merger, Acquisition and Integrations
Travel would be required, but not significant on a regular basis. Due to having several locations around the US, and looking to grow, more travel may be required up front and periodically over time. Open to remote and flexible work schedule. Minneapolis or Midwest based preferred, but not required.
