Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Natural Resources Field Lead to conduct ecological surveys in support of utility, transportation, and development projects throughout the United States.

The anticipated hourly wage for this seasonal/temporary position is between $28.00 to $34.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

responsibilities

The Natural Resources Field Lead will be responsible for the following:

• Conducting wetland and stream delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, functional assessments, habitat assessments, vegetation surveys, wildlife surveys, and associated reporting.
• Following and implementing survey protocols and procedures.
• Complying with industry standard safety requirements and applying risk-management practices to work.
• Understanding the differences in project types, permit thresholds, and document constraints accordingly.
• Providing mentorship to all staff and demonstrating proficiency in a team environment or working alone.
• Collecting, recording, managing, and analyzing geospatial data using Trimble and ESRI products in an organized and efficient manner.
• Preparing technical reports, memos, and other documents for project planning and permitting.
• Supporting proposal development for ecological tasks.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

qualifications and experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Ecology, Soil Science, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or related degree.
• Minimum 3 years of experience managing and/or conducting natural resource field surveys.
• Minimum 1 year of experience leading natural resource field survey teams.
• Preferred: Wetland certifications (e.g., PWS, MN CWD, WI AWD).
• Able to travel; able to work weekends, multiple week shifts away from home, and regularly work in excess of 40 hours per week; and able to conduct field work for 10+ hours per day, sometimes in adverse conditions.
• Possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record and able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills, and ability to strategize on multiple concurrent projects of varying size and complexity.
• Familiarity using Trimble and ESRI products.
• Strong competency in general MS Office applications (Word, Excel) skills required.
• Willingness to be flexible and adaptable with quickly changing project timelines and expectations.
