Position Details
As a Natural Resources Technician, you will be responsible for assisting in the planning, administration, and implementation of programs in the Natural Resources department relating to water resources management, outreach and education, upland habitat management, and wildlife management. The collaborative activities of the Natural Resource staff with their team, across departments and with local partners, community members and businesses impact lives daily by providing healthy accessible natural areas, using and advocating environmentally-friendly and sustainable practices, and works to preserve and protect the city's Natural Resources.

How you'll use your strengths every day
The Natural Resources Technician values people and perspectives by:
  • Implementing Natural Resources outreach and education effort, including occasional public presentations and attendance at workshops/events.
  • Lead seasonal staff and volunteers in habitat management, garden and water quality sampling.
They are on the leading edge when they:
  • Assist with habitat management programs including native prairie management work and invasive species control.
  • Assist with lake management activities and wetland related regulatory issues.
And they expect the best by:
  • Manage raingardens and native plant gardens, including weed control, mulching, and managing contact work.
  • Monitor lake levels and conduct e.coli testing on public beach.

What you'll bring to help you be successful
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental studies, or other Natural Resources related field; or equivalent combination of training and education to perform the work.
  • Experience in native plant identification and habitat management.
  • Experience in water resources and wildlife management.
  • Experience using GIS based software.
  • Must have a valid Minnesota driver's license or ability to obtain.
  • Local government experience preferred.
  • An interest in developing what you do best and a commitment to valuing each colleague for their unique perspectives.
