The Summer Youth Program Assistant is a temporary position that provides the opportunity to work with elementary-aged students while being part of a team providing a high-quality summer program at Myers-Wilkins Elementary. The summer program is focused on increasing students’ sense of belonging and engagement with their school and community and will consist of up to 60 youth entering grades 1-5, participating in a rotation of activities including special instruction in academic, sports, gardening, nutrition, science, and the arts.
This position will report to the Myers-Wilkins Out of School Time Coordinator. The Summer Youth Program Assistant will be responsible for being a role model for the young people in the program, helping to devise and plan games and activities, providing a safe and supportive environment for youth in the program, and participating in ongoing training and reflection with other staff members.

Required Qualifications:
Safety:
● At least age 18 at the start of employment
● Commitment to working in-person with young people and staff daily
● Commitment to & comfort with maintaining current COVID safe procedure expectations, informing and enforcing them with young people daily. Face coverings are optional for youth and staff at this time.
Anti-Racism:
● Demonstrated commitment to ongoing development of personal/professional antiracism through involvement in antiracism workshops, organizations, community leadership, and/or personal experience
● Commitment to the mission, goals, and philosophy of the Duluth Community School Collaborative
Youth Development:
● Interest in or experience with working or volunteering with kids
● Maturity, flexibility and a strong work ethic
● At least 1 reference who can attest to & describe experience:
◦ Caring about and engaging with community and/or children.
◦ Being able to communicate effectively & with compassion.
Desired, but Not Required, Qualifications:
● Experience working or living alongside families and youth in the Hillside neighborhood of Duluth
Duties:
● Support program lead positions in planning and leading summer program activities for youth entering 1st -6th grade
● Participate in paid training days June 12th – 14th
● Be a positive role model for the young people in the program
● Make the program a fun place to be
● Help to devise and plan games and activities.
● Supervise cleaning and meal time.
● Help provide a safe and supportive atmosphere for youth in the program
● Help youth resolve conflicts
● Other duties as assigned.
This temporary summer position does not qualify for benefits, but is eligible for earned Sick and Safe time.
