The MSN and DNP Program Director is both a strategic leader and tactical contributor to the School of Nursing (SON). The MSN and DNP Program Director provides internal and external leadership for the MSN and DNP Programs that advances the NHWSN mission, vision, and values. Working closely with the Associate Dean for Education, the MSN and DNP Program Director develops goals and metrics and collaborates with internal and external strategic partners integral to achieving outcomes. Leads the MSN and DNP program faculty team, student engagement, and delivery of high-quality education. Develops internal and external metrics and feedback systems for continuous improvement. Develops a strategic plan for increasing visibility, reputation, and national ranking of the MSN and DNP programs. Facilitates the MSN and DNP program strategic initiatives with faculty, staff, students, alumni, practice partners, and the community. Serves on or leads various school, university, and professional committees, advisory groups, taskforces, or projects as appropriate. Works closely with CRNA Program Director, Specialty Directors, Program Managers and relevant committees and faculty to ensure MSN and DNP program outcomes and continuous improvement; including collaboration on course offerings, program changes, and student experiences. Collaborates with leaders of NHWSN departments, including the Associate Dean for Clinical Practice Operations, and Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion, Admissions, and Student Affairs. Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Research and the Director of Graduate Study to assure integration of research and faculty research expertise in the DNP program. The Associate Dean for Education will provide oversight and be a strategic partner regarding continuous improvement and issue resolution regarding the MSN and DNP education program, curriculum, faculty, students, and staff.

 

The MSN and DNP Program Director will hold a terminal degree (DNP, or PhD, or equivalent) as well as GA RN/APRN licensure. Experience in graduate clinical nursing education is required and academic nursing leadership experience is preferred. This is a one-year position with re-appointment annually based upon performance appraisal of the Associate Dean for Education in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Operations.

 

The MSN and DNP Program Director will ensure the following:

 

Organizational Champion

  • Strategically aligns with the SON Leadership team
  • Cultivates innovative approaches to advance the MSN and DNP programs in accordance with the NHWSN’s mission and vision
  • Sets the standard for competency-based education to improve student learning and success
  • Leads strategic action with key stakeholders integral to achieving outcomes

Program Leadership and Management

  • Leads the MSN and DNP programs to eminence in outcomes and reputation
  • As the MSN and DNP Program leader, exhibits vision, courage, and optimism
  • Collaborates with NHWSN, Emory, and community leaders to promote community, partnership, mentoring and diverse perspectives
  • Advances high quality education and student success in collaboration with MSN and DNP faculty, Program and Specialty Directors, and the Director of Online Learning and Engagement
  • Oversees and advances MSN and DNP Program student experience outcomes
  • Advances diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion, Admissions, and Student Affairs
  • Leads student engagement that fosters leadership and student outcomes
  • Provides leadership in the management of the MSN and DNP Programs through curriculum development, implementation of innovations, systematic evaluation, and program planning
  • Leads and conducts MSN and DNP faculty meetings, program evaluation, and development
  • Ensures use of innovative technology teaching methods and tools for continuous improvement of the MSN and DNP programs, including advancement of online education delivery models
  • Ensures achievement of credentialing and accreditation standards
  • Advises on hiring, supervision, and evaluation of the MSN and DNP program faculty, including identifying programmatic needs for faculty recruitment and retention
  • Responsible for MSN and DNP program faculty assignments in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Education and the Associate Dean for Academic Operations
  • Oversees MSN and DNP program curriculum development, including facilitation and approval for course, curricula and program changes submitted to the Curriculum committee.
  • Ensures strategic alignment with the SON leadership team, as a member or ex-officio member of SON committees, such as the SON Curriculum Committee, Progressions Committee, Program Evaluation Committee, Faculty Search, and Advisory Committees.

University and Community Engagement

  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships to advance the MSN and DNP program outcomes
  • Collaborates with Emory University, WHSC, EHC, and community leaders to advance MSN and DNP education
  • Participates in the NHWSN Dean’s Educational Advisory Council
  • Supports strategic alignment with the SON leadership team, as a member of external committees
  • Provides input related to university committees on registration, calendar, and academic compliance as needed.

Advising/Mentoring

  • Develops and oversees student success initiatives
  • Mentors and sponsors MSN and DNP program faculty to advance education, scholarship, and professional development outcomes

Student Recruitment and Enrollment

  • Advances NHWSN goals for MSN and DNP enrollment in collaboration with Admissions and Finance
  • Establishes standards for student eligibility, using internal and external data, and supports admission of high-quality candidates for the MSN and DNP program

Metrics and Outcomes

  • Ensures MSN and DNP Program outcomes meet national standards and advances certification pass rates
  • Advances MSN and DNP enrollment growth
  • Advances MSN and DNP project clinical partnerships and IPE initiatives
  • Advances retention and graduation rates
  • Advances MSN and DNP program national recognition
