Overview
Plan, organize, and implement accurate estimating functions for assigned projects, communicate and work with estimating staff or consultants to ensure accurate estimates are professionally prepared in appropriate formats in a timely manner. Responsible for estimates from conceptual / schematic design, design development, value engineering, pre-bid, construction, and post construction stages.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review design documents to understand scope and clarify ambiguities with internal team, design team, or Owner
- Review construction drawings, BIMs, specifications, RFQ/Ps, and all other construction documents for estimate related activities
- Prepare take-off and enter line-item quantities and prices in estimating software for the following trades: HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical and Special Systems
- Provide realistic conceptual cost or unit cost estimates based on the design phase and scope of each component of construction
- Confers with commissioned architects and engineers, or their independent estimating team to reconcile differences in their cost estimates for each project and negotiates agreements on preliminary estimates of construction costs
- Collaborate with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the estimate
- Distribute project documents and relevant project information to the project team
- Attend and participate in Value Engineering sessions
- Review all estimates and bids with Sr. Estimator and/or Estimating Manager
- Establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with internal and external clients
- Participate in meetings with clients and designers to obtain a thorough understanding of the project scope
- Monitors construction market trends to provide accurate current and forecast estimates
- Implements market trends such as material price indices, regional pricing, labor analysis, and other pertinent market trend information for assigning realistic costs and contingency factors
