Hegira Health, Inc. (HHI), a private non-profit corporation, is one of the largest freestanding behavioral healthcare agencies in the area. HHI, accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the State of Michigan, provides a broad array of Mental Health and substance abuse treatment and prevention services to individuals of all ages.
Hegira Health's Community Outreach for Psychiatric Emergencies COPE is a community-based program that provides immediate psychiatric intervention to Wayne County Medicaid consumers in crisis.

CRISIS SCREENER REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university, specializing in psychology, social work, or guidance and counseling
- Possess a license through LARA in social work or counseling
- Experience providing direct treatment services to adults in a behavioral health inpatient or outpatient setting for not less than 18 months, of which at least 6 months’ time was spent working with adults with co-occurring disorders
- Solid knowledge of diagnostics, psychopharmacology, and supportive treatment approaches as applied to a severely mentally ill (SMI) adult population
CRISIS SCREENER RESPONSIBILITIES (summary):
Screening Process
- Provide Crisis Screening via a Pre-Admission Review for telephonic and/or Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) consumers.
- Review prior episodes of Crisis Screening and current MHWIN documentation, including Crisis Plans and alerts.
- Provide short-term, solution-focused, supportive, crisis counseling to consumers and/or family as necessary.
- Identify appropriate level of care based on contractual medical necessity criteria.
- Adhere to all Crisis Plans and contact community providers as needed.
- Contact consumer MCPNs and provide information for advocacy purposes.
- Contact appropriate community provider(s) services and supports within 1-hour after the disposition has been made.
- Document all treatment services provided to consumer and/or consumer’s family/ guardian.
- Review external documentation sent by hospitals and/or non-COPE facilities.
- Provide at least 1 brief, solution-focused counseling session each shift for consumers on 23-hour holds and document on progress note.
- Ensure coordination and documentation of all Clinically Responsible Service Provider (CRSP) and Managed Care Provider Network (MCPN) contacts.
- Maintain any assigned records, logs, and spreadsheets.
- Participate in Shift Report meetings with Crisis Screeners coming on duty to ensure continuity of care.
- Utilize MHWIN reports to track and monitor placement and authorization needs.
- Enter documentation in MHWIN Notes and PAR-D as it occurs to ensure accurate information is reflected in consumer record.
- Contact hospitals where consumers are awaiting placement to give and receive detailed status updates.
- Contact psychiatric units for bed availability.
- Contact accepting hospitals.
- Determine and document placement attempts and authorization for admission to each level of care.
Pay is based upon years of related experience and licensure. Higher pay for full license.
