Position Summary
LGBT Network is seeking a full-time Mental Health Clinician to join our growing counseling team. The Mental Health Clinician delivers high-quality, LGBT-affirming counseling services for LGBT people and families. This position is responsible for two main activities: 1) delivery of counseling services; and 2) support groups & community education. Clinical supervision is available as part of the benefits package for those seeking to earn their clinical hours/licensure. The Mental Health Clinician reports to the Senior Mental Health Clinician with additional support provided by the Clinical Supervisor.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Individual & Family Counseling Services
- Deliver high-quality, LGBT-affirming individual, couple, and family counseling services for LGBT individuals and families.
- Provide counseling services both in-person at all of our Long Island LGBT Centers as well as virtually when needed.
- Work in concert with the Mental Health team to identify additional Mental Health needs and implement a plan to address those needs such as short-term clinical, support, and/or recovery groups.
- Respond to HelpLine and Drop-In inquiries to support individuals in need and/or in crisis through crisis intervention, support, information and referral, linkage to resources, and advocacy services as needed.
Support Groups & Community Education
- Facilitate select short-term and ongoing clinical and support groups.
- Help other program staff in non-clinical groups and programs when needed and appropriate.
- Serve as community educator to deliver relevant workshops and training programs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Conduct program promotion and community outreach to identify and engage LGBT people into counseling services and support groups.
- Participate in select large-scale agency events such as Long Island Pride, LGBT Youth Conference, LGBT Youth Prom, and LGBT Families Day
- Collect, document, and enter a range of counseling program data and other required documentation such as client files and case notes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
- Graduate level Mental Health degree required; clinical licensure preferred. Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, and other Mental Health professionals are welcome and encouraged to apply
- Experience providing Mental Health, behavioral health, or related support to LGBT people with extensive experience with transgender and nonbinary people preferred
- CASAC certification or training a plus, but not required.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Awareness of, and commitment to, the LGBT community with a sensitivity to issues of diversity, including sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, neurodiversity, socioeconomic status, language, and immigration status
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

- Flexible schedule a must, as this position requires working evenings and some weekends.
- Reliable public transportation and a valid driver license, as this position requires travel throughout Long Island, including Nassau, Suffolk and the East End.
Salary and Benefits
$55,000 - $70,000 depending on degree, status of clinical licensure, and experience
