POSITION SUMMARY:
Medical Scribe Duties:
The Medical Scribe is an individual trained in medical documentation who assists a provider during patient encounters. The primary role of the Medical Scribe is to increase the efficiency, data capture, and productivity of the provider. The Medical Scribe documents the visit in the EHR while the provider is concentrating on the patient. When not performing Medical Scribe duties as assigned other department duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. At the time of hire, each employee will meet with their supervisor to set measurable goals and objectives that are a requirement for the position. These measurables will be monitored by the supervisor and reviewed during the introductory period. They will also be utilized in the annual performance evaluation. The measurables may change from year to year. The supervisor is responsible for notifying the employee of any new measurables at the time of the performance review.
2. Performs any combination of following duties under direction of physician to assist in the examination and treatment of patients including: records information in patient’s electronic record.
3. Participates in the patient’s visit under the direction of the medical provider documenting information into the EHR as directed by the Provider.
4. Record all information in the patient electronic record and electronically signing all entries with full name and title.
5. Seek guidance and direction as necessary for the completion of duties and in situations that exceeds abilities.
6. Complete duties and projects in a timely manner.
7. Performs secretarial tasks, such as processing refill requests, obtaining medical records, and other duties as assigned by Providers or Supervisors.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. With specialized training and written approval, may perform additional and specialized tasks pertinent to assigned area.
2. Performs other related duties as needed with approval from Nursing Director.
3. Participate in continuing education in order to provide the highest quality of care to the patient population.
4. Identify victims of child and adult abuse, assault and domestic violence, and provides intervention, makes referrals as necessary, and reports to appropriate agency.
5. Assist other staff members in development and maintenance of department goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
6. Attend all trainings, meetings and conferences as required.
7. Learn and implement electronic health records functions as they continue to evolve.
8. Assist with a variety of duties in order to meet the needs of the department on an as needed basis.
9. Other duties as assigned.

13. Ability to utilize computer and various programs.
14. Ability to type 35 words per minute.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Graduation from approved program for Medical Scribes.
2. Preferably, two (2) years experience as a Medical Scribe in a doctor’s office or ambulatory medical clinic.
3. Completion of FRTH Scribe Training.
4. Experience with computer and computer programs.
5. Type 35 words per minute, tested.
