THE POSITION

If you have experience transcribing medical information, completing medical coding for reimbursement claims, and utilizing Microsoft Excel to effectively organize data, this might be the position for you!
Clarks Summit State Hospital is planning for implementation of an electronic health record (EHR) in approximately the fourth quarter of calendar year 2024. We are seeking Medical Records Assistants to provide key Medical Records support for this transition and conduct functions such as entering patient information and auditing patient records once the EHR is in use. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Medical Records Assistant for Clarks Summit State Hospital, you will be an essential employee supporting the operational needs of the hospital’s Medical Records and related functions by efficiently preparing, organizing, classifying, tracking, abstracting, and coding patient medical information and data.

k Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. May change based on operational needs.
  • Overtime and travel as needed

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of clerical experience in a Medical Records department of a hospital, or ambulatory acute medical care setting or a licensed nursing facility, which has included six months of experience under the general direction or oversight by a registered Medical Records Technician or Administrator; and graduation from high school; or
  • Graduation from a medical secretarial or Medical Records program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require satisfactory completion of a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
