GENERAL SUMMARY: Performs general receptionist duties for a medical office. Answers the phones, checks-out, reschedules and cancels patient appointments.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers telephone as assigned, screen calls, takes messages and provides general information to clients
- Assesses patient’s appointment changes, schedules and cancels appointments as appropriate
- Sends appropriate forms, questionnaires and instructions to patients as needed.
- Work with patient account representative on billing questions.
- Documents and verifies demographic information for new and established patients.
- Prepares encounter forms for patient appointments
- Checks-in and out patients
- Daily receptionist duties:
Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
Checks in patients, verifies and updates necessary demographic information
Assist patients with ambulatory and physical difficulties.
Maintains appointment schedules and follows office scheduling policies.
Checks out patients, makes follow-up appointments, as well as collects fees, co-pays and deductibles.
Documents no-shows and follow-up with physician and patients.
Scans documents related to patient care and file into electronic medical records files.
Screens visitors, maintains Visitor Log, and responds to routine requests for information.
- Maintains patient confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines and office policy.
- Attends meetings and seminars as required.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
POSITION DESCRIPTION – RECEPTIONIST
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of business office procedures. Knowledge of computer entry. Knowledge of basic medical terminology and coding. Skill in using computer, operating all office equipment. Skill in greeting the public in a pleasant and helpful manner. Ability to speak clearly and concisely. Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and public.
