Position Summary

Our physicians and staff work together to ensure that patients receive the highest quality of care. The role of the Medical Assistant is to work collaboratively with physicians, providers, nurses and patients through a variety of tasks related to patient care with a focus on patient experience, safety, quality and efficiency. The Medical Assistant acts as a patient care coordinator and advocate, maintains clinical supplies, proper documentation and an optimal patient flow and experience, following OSHA/WISHA other compliance and regulatory guidelines.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant is expected to perform position-related duties including, but not limited to:

  • Provide care to non-acutely ill patients within the ASC.
  • Provide general patient care that meets psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously.
  • Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of patient.
  • Assist in OR turnovers, setup of surgeries, pulling cases for next day.
  • Assist with retrieving and/or putting supplies away.
  • Assist with retrieving and cleaning of instruments & equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate to the RN or Provider any observed changes in patient status
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to supervisors, co-workers and physicians.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Respond to patients in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Manage and operates equipment safely and correctly
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • High school graduate or the equivalent is required
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification required.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a medical setting- a plus
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and medications
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.

Work may be performed in an office and clinical environment. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear. The associate is required to sit for long periods of time, stand and walk, bend and stretch. Use of telephone and computer is required. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds. May requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
