Position summary: JMT is seeking a current full-time Mechanical Engineering student entering their Junior or Senior year within an ABET Accredited program. The intern will be a member of our growing Facilities Engineering practice in the Newark, DE office. The intern will be asked to work closely with engineering employees to carry out an array of assigned tasks. The tasks will range from data entry, making changes to existing engineering drawings to design of small engineering projects in addition to documentation and field support of Design and Commissioning activities. Candidate will work closely with mechanical engineers and other facilities team members. Other duties include, but are not limited to, assembling data and assisting with problem-solving requiring basic theories and engineering fundamentals; utilizing computer programs to solve engineering problems; assisting with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized engineering projects, technical evaluation of equipment and material, and maintaining accurate and current project documentation. Essential functions and responsibilities
  • Enter data into systems
  • Make edits and updates to existing engineering drawings and projects
  • Coordinate new small-scale projects
  • Assemble data and research
  • Assist with administrative duties
  • Provide input on solutions to problems using basic theories and engineering fundamentals
  • Assist with layout and design of routine small and medium-sized engineering projects
  • Develop and prepare specifications
  • Evaluate equipment and material
  • Maintain accurate and current project documentation
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

Required Experience
  • Full time student in mechanical or architectural engineering
  • Equivalency of a Junior or Senior status from an ABET Accredited Mechanical Engineering degree program

Preferred Experience
  • Coursework in related field
  • Previous internship experience

Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 30 lbs) may be required as needed.
