Camp Marbles
Playful, fun, creative and original, Camp Marbles has long been the community's favorite Summer Camp. Camp Marbles offers weekly themed camps with museum exhibit visits and active outdoor play for 3–9-year-olds. Campers explore engaging activities with a fun mix of hands-on play, crafts, and games. Summer camp begins June 3rd and end on August 30th of 2024.
The Opportunity
Make a real difference in a child’s life! Do you love cooking and exploring new foods? Marbles is seeking a playful, engaging, and energetic individual to serve as our cooking camp lead for the summer. The Camp Host- Cook lead is responsible for delivering a safe, hands-on, and engaging direct childcare experience to campers enrolled in our cooking-themed camps. The Cooking Lead will manage the cooking activities by teaching basic cooking knowledge and skills to the campers.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the cooking kitchen and utilize the curriculum to implement planned cooking activities for campers and camp hosts.
- Assist the Learning Engagement Manager with inventory and purchasing of ingredients and supplies.
- Organize and prepare ingredients and stations while maintaining a clean kitchen between activities.
- Adjust activity implementation based on camper ages and specific needs.
- Focus on the safety and well-being of campers during each activity; teach participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
- Lead campers through the cooking activities while facilitating engaging, hands-on, play-based learning experiences that foster relationships with and between campers.
- Perform the camp opening and closing duties. Assist Camp Hosts with their groups during breaks and downtime.
- Assist with carpool duty to ensure an efficient and safe experience.
- Communicate with caregivers; Report camper complaints to leadership and work to resolve issues.
- Perform all other duties assigned by the manager.
- Shift Supervision and training for Teen Play Corp volunteers.
Experience and Skill Requirements
- 1 year of experience in direct childcare (preferred).
- Prior camp or equivalent experience is a plus.
- Basic cooking knowledge, kitchen safety skills and the ability to teach these skills and concepts to others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- First Aid and CPR certification a plus.
- Experience working with neurodivergent children is a plus.
- Walking, standing, stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Occasionally going up and down stairs.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- This is a seasonal position with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm Additional hours are available through before and aftercare.
- Availability required for the Cooking Lead include June 17-21, June 24-28, July 8-12, July 22-26, August 5-9, and August 12-16.
- Other weeks will vary based on training, camp staffing needs and availability.
- Mandatory training for Camp Hosts will be held on Friday evening May 31st and all-day Saturday, June 1st.
