Job description

The Camp Counselor / Activities Team is responsible for preparing, implementing, promoting and manage the Club's social activities, summer camp and kids programming. We strive to have a personal connection with all our members and look for special qualities in all the members of our team. This role may also be referred to as Member Service Specialist. The Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club may provide Life Guard and CPR Training.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with management to create and implement all scheduled activities, daily camp activities and special events on the Club’s calendar for each month.
  • Ensures supplies and decoration needs are set up for each camp, activity and event.
  • Enjoys working with people of all ages, but especially children
  • Responsible for assisting in planning and implementing the activities and all programming
  • Organizes and interacts with every member and camper in all activities, camp and special events
  • Works closely with all other departments to ensure that complete, concise information is given
  • Gives feedback to the Activities Director on events, camp and kids activities
  • Always supervises children’s play activity during swim time, activities and special events
  • Provides a sense of enthusiasm and reliability, encouraging that all members feel welcomed and secure throughout camp, events and activities
  • Multitasks throughout the day, focusing on safety, planning and member participation
  • Act as a positive role model
  • Maintain a sense of structure and discipline
  • Provide structure throughout the day, leading games between planned activities, and assisting in instructional settings.
  • Resolves any disputes that may arise during camp. activities or events if necessary
  • Answers questions regarding the Club, activities, camp and upcoming events
  • Assists with special events scheduled and carry out duties when needed.
  • May works evenings, holidays, and weekends
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Enforces rules of conduct.
  • Maintains clean and safe facilities: Ensures general maintenance and upkeep of equipment (i. e. games, boats, swimming pool, etc.).
  • Always wears the designated uniform while at work with proper nametag.
  • Works with parents to plan and evaluate ongoing educational and entertainment programs.
  • Attends all meetings as directed by the Activities Director.
  • Administers first aid to minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises of all campers.
  • Checks first aid supplies and reports needed items, let’s the Activities Director know if we need supplies.
  • Organizes and monitors pool & lake games at all times always keeping safety in mind.
  • Strive to make each day the best it can be for each camper.
  • May works evenings, holidays, and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area.
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.

Technical and Physical Requirements

  • Must be CPR/AED First Aid Certified
  • Lifeguard Certified-
  • Must be available May- September
  • Enjoy working with kids
  • Good customer service
  • Must be outgoing and personable
  • Able to work outside for long periods of time
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to pick up 30lbs
