The Minneapolis Fed’s Research Division has a long history of producing top-tier academic and policy research on a wide range of issues related to the mission of the Federal Reserve System. First and foremost, the Research Division prepares analysis in support of the Bank President’s participation in Federal Open Market Committee meetings and other public engagements. In addition, staff engages in academic research related to strategic Bank initiatives, including monetary policy, banking regulation, debt crises, inequality, education, and minimum wage, among others.

For more than 50 years, the Division has had a strong partnership with the University of Minnesota. More than 100 research and policy economists, research analysts and assistants, local and national research consultants, visiting scholars from around the world, and a highly trained professional staff comprise the Research Division. The Research Division has a strong commitment to DE&I to create a welcoming working environment and, more generally, an economy that works for all.

The Division is seeking a Manager of Technology & Analytic, in the Research Division’s Support function. This leadership role develops detailed knowledge of the operations of the Division and collaborates with colleagues throughout the Division, Bank, and Federal Reserve System. This role will manage a team of experts in technology, finance and compliance analyst functions that support economic research and fulfill reporting requirements for the Division. This position reports to the AVP-Research.

Onsite work is an essential function of this position, and you are expected to be in the office 4 days per week for meetings and team collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate the operational, technical, analytical support team and automation activities of the department ensuring optimal day-to-day and long-term operational objectives are met.

  • Support official staff in the effective and efficient administration of the department, which includes resource planning and alignment, formulation and administration of department budgets, coordination of research, and identification of opportunities to leverage process improvements, emerging technologies, and business trends.

  • Support official staff with strategic planning to achieve business objectives, including overseeing the development and maintenance of strategic plans and tools.

  • Oversee key national projects including automation efforts.

  • Act as project leader and/or facilitate team efforts on highly complex System and local projects.

  • Communicate and collaborate across division, Bank, and System functions to resolve complex business and technical issues.

  • Provide high-level expertise on project, product, and program management, as well as business, financial and technological issues.

  • Lead compliance with System and local policies, coordinate work assignments and implementation with efficient use of division and System resources, and lead change and process improvement efforts.

  • Manage research analysts as well as project managers, program managers, business analysts, and other operations staff.

  • Develop, motivate, and evaluate performance of staff, which includes managing staff to identify development assignments and training opportunities, working with individuals on their career goals, delegating responsibilities, providing timely feedback, and evaluating performance on any of the preceding duties.

  • Play a key role in the full cycle of employment matters, including, but not limited to, those involving hiring, retention and performance optimization, salary recommendations, and decisions related to the termination of employment, as well as the documentation of these matters.

Qualifications:

To be considered, you must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of related professional and supervisory/management experience OR

  • Master’s degree and six (6) years of related professional and supervisory/management experience

In addition to meeting one of the above-listed qualifications, the following are required:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, leadership skills, and advanced proficiency using standard business applications and software.

  • Strong ability to conceptualize, plan, develop, and coordinate large scale, complex, technical projects and manage multiple operations.

  • Proven ability to lead people to accomplish results.

The following are desired in addition to meeting the above education and experience requirements:

  • Work experience in an academic department, library, data center, think tank, or other research-focused setting.

  • General understanding of business technology including network architecture, cloud environments, and data management.

  • Familiarity with technical and business platforms including Amazon Web Services, Ariba, ServiceNow, and/or Workday.

This position requires access to confidential supervisory information and/or FOMC information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. federal immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, and U.S. permanent residents who either are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization or who have applied for naturalization within the requisite timeframe.
