The Tax and Technical Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing financial compliance including premium taxes and form filing, preparing federal and state tax provisions and estimates, and researching Technical Accounting issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Review and oversee premium Tax and form filings to ensure accurate and timely filing
- Analyze current compliance processes for improvement and enact changes
- Lead the team to investigate, communicate, and correct errors in any financial compliance filings
- Establish, implement, and monitor policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Research financial compliance requirements for new entities or lines of business
- Prepare quarterly tax provisions/estimates, including booking journal entries
- Partner with external tax consultants to ensure timely and accurate filings of all income tax returns, and collaborate with tax advisors on new activities, issues, and data required to prepare filings
- Facilitate R&D credit analysis with external tax consultants and internal IT department
- Implement processes to ensure appropriate R&D tax amortization
- Review new investment system reports to ensure the appropriate tax reporting
- Approve journal entries prior to posting to the general ledger and review account reconciliations for related Tax and compliance accounts
- Periodically update the Company Expense Type Coding Guide or other communications to ensure items such as meals and travel related expenses are captured appropriately in the general ledger for tax reporting
- Assist the Director of Financial Reporting to implement, and monitor appropriate internal controls and policies to ensure conformance and compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements
- Research and prepare necessary Technical Accounting memoranda
- Research, review, and monitor Technical Accounting matters and principles and correctly document the appropriate application companies
- Participate on department and corporate strategic project teams as requested

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting from a four-year college or university required
- 6+ years of job-related experience required
- Financial reporting experience required
- CPA preferred
- Must be a working manager, able to meet crucial deadlines, be self-motivated and detail- oriented, and capable of operating in a fast-paced environment
- Thorough understanding of accounting practices and procedures
- Strong reviewing skills, asks questions and ensures team is challenging the status quo
- Brings superior ability to manage processes and demonstrates high standards regarding the quality and thoroughness of compliance filings
- Demonstrates a strong character with a high level of integrity and strong ethical standards in a manner that builds trust and confidence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, represents well as a finance ambassador
