Job Description
The Production Release Manager leads a team of Software Release analysts and production workload schedulers. Collaborates with application developers and infrastructure teams to tackle the automation needed to connect all elements of an application and integrate the necessary components that are needed to run complex enterprise systems. Responsible for applying agile methodologies with continuous integration pipelines and configuration management through infrastructure as code. This position will play an essential role in Boston College's evolution towards effective service delivery practices in hybrid cloud computing environments.
The Production Release Manager also works closely with the DevOps Engineers to continuously assess existing infrastructure tools and processes and assists in building scalable, reliable and efficient mechanisms to effectively meet BC's infrastructure short and long-term requirements. Has highly effective communication skills and is able to foster teamwork and collaboration across IT areas to achieve operational efficiencies.
Key job functions:
- Software Release
- Work closely with the DevOps team to help establish and manage an efficient release management process, including version control, release planning, and deployment.
- Apply agile methodologies with continuous integration pipelines and configuration management through infrastructure as code.
- Work with application developers and other cross-functional teams to ensure that code deployments meet audit and compliance requirements.
- Workload Scheduling.
- Administer IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS) application to create and maintain job workflows for business applications within a production, quality assurance and development environment.
- Based upon requests received from application administrators and developers, build job streams to implement scheduling solutions with varied requirements while simultaneously ensuring adherence to systems operational requirements/procedures.
- Oversee the execution of all scheduled enterprise application jobs in end to end and distributed environments
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $96,100 to $120,100; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements
- BA/BS in Computer Science or related work experience.
- Minimum of three years of experience managing Software Release in a continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) environment.
- Minimum of five years of supervisory experience.
Role specific competencies:
- Working knowledge of Agile software development methodologies.
- Ability to collaborate with DevOps and software development teams to support the best practices of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
- Experience with Atlassian software development and management tools (Jira, Bamboo) is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with the applications development lifecycle and source code management concepts.
- Technical and analytical aptitude and the ability to solve problems creatively in multiple platforms (e.g. Unix/Linux and Windows).
- Ability to work within tight time constraints, multi-task, prioritize and adjust to changing priorities.
- Knowledge of compliance (SAS 115) and best practice standards as they relate to audit controls.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with others and demonstrate a customer-focused orientation.
- Well-versed in the interdependencies of enterprise applications.
- Familiarity with workload scheduling software.
- Ability to handle some off-hour support during scheduled and emergency production changes.
