Job Description

The Manager, Health Economics and Outcomes Research is a research position, functioning within Takeda U.S. Medical Affairs, Outcomes Research (OR) Team, and contributing to the successful development and commercialization of new and innovative peri-approval and marketed products in the U.S. The Manager will provide quality and Outcomes Research expertise for assigned therapeutic area(s), and will specifically:

  • Work closely with US HEOR Directors and the medical team, responsible for developing, executing, and publishing of HEOR & real-world studies such as retrospective database analyses, chart review studies, cost-effectiveness and budget impact models, patient-reported Outcomes Research, meta-analysis and indirect comparisons, across Takeda’s portfolio to develop evidence to support US medical strategies.
  • Develop high quality HEOR and real-world study concepts, synopsis, protocol, data analysis plan and lead internal study synopsis and protocol review, project communications, updates, vendor and budget management.
  • Bring scientific expertise and excellence in the medical units. Apply advanced HEOR methods in real-world data, statistics, data science and machine learning to develop creative research topics and solutions to business problems.
  • Lead the development of study reports, abstracts, posters, and manuscripts, perform hands-on data analysis, present results internally and externally at scientific congress.
  • Work with medical experts, external vendors, research fellows, statisticians, internal analytic teams to implement exploratory analysis, data interpretations and develop study concepts.
  • Collaborate with value and insights team to develop payer communication materials and provide HEOR data trainings to the field team.  
  • Assist HEOR leads with HEOR study operations, tracking study progress, and approval status
  • Under the guidance of HEOR directors, operate cross functional alignment, regular update to the management, AML & MSL teams and other stakeholders.
  • Support HEOR communication tools, compendium, study summary, OR forum and advisory board meetings.
  • As possible explore collaborative research or similar partnership projects with national, regional or corporate payer account regarding the demonstration of products overall value, evidences needs or other mutually defined areas of medical/HEOR interest.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge with regards to the scientific, clinical and commercial developments in the GI therapeutic areas as well as a robust understanding of pharmacy management/medical policy trends/techniques used by payers to make informed decisions about payer strategy and OR plans and tactics
  • Attend and actively participate in relevant outcomes-related sessions at scientific and professional meetings. Creates and communicates outcomes-related sessions at scientific and professional meetings that are of strategic interest to Takeda.
  • Attend and participate in relevant HEOR, Outcomes Research, pricing, comparative effectiveness, policy and value meetings or symposia that are of strategic interest to Takeda (e.g., ISPOR, ICER, AMCP etc.) and create reports and communicate reports from these meetings.
  • Track and report on changes in the healthcare environment that are of relevance to Takeda
  • Consistently completes all required training, activity documentation, knowledge management systems, expense reporting, and other administrative responsibilities as required by SOPs and guidelines.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Combination of academic training and practical experience in scientific methods is required. This may be consist of:
  • Doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., Sc.D., or Dr.P.H.) in a relevant discipline such as, but not limited to, health services research, health Outcomes Research, epidemiology, pharmacy administration, public health, psychology, economics, statistics or decision sciences, plus at least 1 year of practical experience, or
  • Clinical doctoral degree (e.g., in medicine, pharmacy, nursing), and
  • Practical experience (preferred at least 2 years) in performing applied healthcare research, in any setting, including life sciences company, research organization, academic institution, or governmental agency, is required.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in management of applied healthcare research in the multi-disciplinary drug development and commercialization environment and process (involving multiple stakeholders) is expected.
  • Advanced knowledge of analytical approaches and ability to work within structured or unstructured data using statistical and data management software (e.g., SAS, Stata, R, etc.).
  • Experience analyzing data from traditional healthcare databases (e.g., administrative claims data, electronic medical records, etc.).
  • Knowledge of clinical research and study design along the continuum of drug development is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated expertise in applied healthcare research is required.
  • Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications, dossier development, and strategic, customer-focused OR tool development is expected.
  • Knowledge of health care reimbursement systems and health economics is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting or interpreting statistical analysis is highly desired.
  • Experience in collaborating with research partners and in managing multiple tasks and complex projects is expected.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific evidence, with strong written and verbal presentation skills, is required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel to meetings (sometimes requiring overnight stays) involving Takeda colleagues, research partners, and/or external stakeholders is a requirement of the position.
  • This position is office-based in Boston, MA.
  • Some international travel may be required.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$108,500.00 - $170,500.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S.based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
