POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for overseeing all Research Projects under the direction of senior managers/directors and Principal Investigators. Supervises, trains, and evaluates research staff. Organizes and manages multiple Research Projects, with primary responsibility of handling the day to day administrative and management issues related to ongoing research studies. Manages grant-funded Research Projects; including working with study teams, serving as liaison to the Institutional Review Board, ensuring compliance with reporting, and coordinating new grant applications. The Project Manager will monitor budgets and spending and coordinate contracts with independent consultants and subcontractors.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Management
- Coordinates and facilitates the Research Project management life cycle, including initiation, development, and implementation of various complex experimentation projects.
- Responsible for scoping, coordinating early research activities, training research staff, and managing the completion of investigational forms.
- Coordinates research teams, and manages Research Project timelines, to ensure research trials or milestones are completed within the specified and in line with annual objectives.
- Responsible for the completion of both research and project management deliverables, including project plans and research schedules, competitive intelligence reports, progress reports and investigational applications.
Research Management
- Monitors and enables compliance with institutional research policies by communicating and collaborating with Department research faculty and teams at BU and BMC
- Works with research teams, and the project and research directors, to coordinate fieldwork initiatives, and conduct pre/post-research analyses and evaluations.
- Manages digital infrastructure related to data collection, data storage and data analysis. Collects, summarizes and interprets research data.
- Manages research department hardware needs; ensures functioning computers, telecommunications equipment and office equipment necessary for research activities.
Post Award
- Interfaces with various department and staff as well as external organizations to ensure a smooth and efficient post award process.
- Primary contact for all post-award issues for PI's within portfolio, including: reimbursements, purchases, invoice payments, staffing, consulting payments, subcontracts, budget analysis, financial planning. Reviews/reconciles monthly accounts to actual expenditures.
- Manages Effort reporting for both BMC staff and BU faculty in portfolio, and outside of portfolio when needed
- Collaborates with Principal Investigators and RAF staff with the preparation of budgets.
Staff Management
- Assists PI with onboarding of research staff (i.e. placing IT requests for access, scheduling Epic training, setting up payment in Workday)
- Supervises support staff (e.g., Research Coordinators, Research Assistants, etc), including training, delegating tasks, overseeing daily activities, mentoring, guiding through demonstration of best practices and offering opportunities for professional development.
- Prepares performance evaluations in coordination with PI/PD; approves weekly timesheets; responsible for hiring, disciplining and processing terminations in accordance with established polices.
Administrative Duties
- Creates/manages a dataset of all internal and external departmental extramural faculty salary support to track monthly effort and monthly salary support to ensure the department has the necessary information for cost distributions and compensation plans. Supports the finance manager in processing monthly cost distributions changes.
- Manages purchasing, invoices and accounts payable for the department. Assists the Principal Investigator with monitoring expenses, facilitating contracts, ordering materials and documenting all approved variances.
- Liaisons with Institutional Review Board (IRB) for submissions, correspondence, and regulatory binders, including administrative amendments.
- Assists with development and writing of proposals to obtain funding for ongoing and future research activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
- Master's degree in related field (may consider candidates with Bachelor's degree who have at least 6 years directly related research and/or clinical experience).
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of three years' experience in research, public health, health care administration and/or related field, including experience managing projects and operations.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Must be highly organized and detail-oriented, have exceptional oral communications and writing skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in project management, including budgeting, planning, execution, delivery, quality assurance, and reporting.
- Experience in data analysis and manuscript preparation is helpful.
- Knowledge of MS Word, Power Point, and Excel is essential.
- Must be a proactive problem solver with superb planning, program coordination, and leadership skills.
