OBJECTIVE SUMMARY: Oversees all functions related to pharmaceutical care, education, and/or management of Pharmacy personnel.  Provides drug therapy review/monitoring, supervises preparation and dispensing of medication and assures drug control in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures as well as all applicable laws and regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the selection, hiring, coaching, disciplining, and firing of Pharmacy personnel
  • Responsible for supervising the actions of staff pharmacists, clinical training pharmacists, residents, interns, externs, and technicians in providing quality pharmaceutical care to inpatients and outpatients of Snoqualmie Valley Hospital. This includes all aspects of therapeutic selection, implementation, monitoring, modification and dispensing of drug therapy – all with appropriate documentation and communication

Accountabilities/Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in orientation of new employees and students.
  • Assists in scheduling pharmacists within hospital guidelines.
  • Provide teaching, direction and supervision of pharmacists, residents, pharmacy technicians, interns and students working under your direction.
  • Responsible for adherence by pharmacists, pharmacy interns, pharmacy externs and pharmacy technicians to departmental policies and procedures as well as State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for providing quality pharmaceutical care to inpatients and outpatients of Snoqualmie Valley Hospital.
  • Understands and reacts effectively to the unique needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patients.
  • Assures that proper charging documentation is completed correctly for services provided.
  • Promote and market Snoqualmie Valley Hospital and the Pharmacy Department to the community, patients, hospital employees, members of the medical staff and their office employees in an informational manner.
  • Maintain a positive, direct, open communication line with members of the SVH Medical Staff and their employees.
  • Manages all aspects of the 340B program
  • Provide teaching, direction and supervision of Pharmacy technicians, interns and students working under the pharmacist’s direction.
  • Completes additional responsibilities/projects when assigned by Chief Medical Officer.
  • Assists in identifying and developing action plans for areas of pharmaceutical care needing continuous quality improvement.
  • Coordinates staff education, implements C.Q.I. action plans and collects, reviews and reports on the outcome data.
  • Represents the Department of Pharmaceutical Services on the Quality Management Committee, participates on other appropriate committees and interacts with SVH departments and medical staff as appropriate.
  • Organizes, collects, reviews and presents the data collected from the Pharmaceutical Department’s Drug Utilization Evaluation (DUE) and Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) activities.
  • Develops policies and procedures for all C.Q.I. activities including DUE and ADR activities.
  • Promotes the adherence to the SVH Drug Formulary as approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee of Medical Staff.
  • Promotes staff and unit emergency response preparedness.
  • Promotes general safety and protect patients/family/visitors and co-workers.
  • Assumes the role of maintaining the pharmacy’s policies and procedures to accurately reflect the dispensing and clinical processes and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of new programs, while supporting and facilitating the programs in place.
  • Participates in and supports professional organizations.


SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication skills with patients and their families, medical staff members and department/hospital staff.
  • Demonstrated teaching abilities.
  • Professionally ethical and experienced in directing and supervising pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy interns, students and pharmacy assistants.
  • Ability to serve as a role model and provide guidance to other staff including review and evaluation of performance.
  • Proficiency in English verbal and written communication skills with patients, their families and health care professionals.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with a diverse population.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical and emotional development of all age groups.
  • Maintains a knowledge base of current medications, drug therapies and distribution services. Working knowledge of ACLS drug selection and dosing guidelines.
  • Able to get to all Code situations in a timely manner, perform basic CPR, if needed, and prepare IV push syringes and IV medication drips accurately and rapidly and administer medications if needed.


REQUIRED EDUCATION: Completion of an advanced degree preferred, but not required.  Completion of an ASHP Accredited Residency and/or Fellowship preferred, but not required.  Washington State pharmacy license.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years of Pharmacy experience in a progressive acute care hospital setting required. Minimum of five years supervisory or lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in the following areas: unit dose, IV admixture, ambulatory care services, continuous quality improvement, 340B, drug use evaluations, project development, and drug information

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Washington. Qualified as a preceptor or able to gain status within three months of hire. CPR certification.

Eligibility Requirements - Employees regularly scheduled at least 20 hours per week.

Employee Dependents - Your legal spouse or domestic partner, Dependent children until age 26.

Waiting Period - 1st of the month following 30 days from your date of hire.
