Job description

Job Title: Manager of Government Affairs
Department: Administrative Services
Reports To: President and CEO
FLSA Status: Exempt/Full Time
COVID-19 Vaccine Required but subject to recognized exemptions.
Position Summary
The Manager of Government Affairs implements strategic plans and oversees engagement activities to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of Government authorities that will support and enhance the organization’s business goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (inclusive but not exhaustive):
Government Affairs Strategy and Management
  • Researches and monitors government activities that could affect the organization’s business and clients.
  • Assists senior management and leadership with strategic planning for known and potential regulatory activities related to the business and industry.
  • Testifies before government committees in support of the organization and/or industry.
  • Performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization.
  • Introduces legislative and public policy changes that will support company operations.
Relationship Management
  • Oversee and manage a liaison program between the organization and legislative entities.
  • Builds and maintains professional relationships with members of federal, state, and local government entities and agencies.
Advocacy and Community Engagement
  • Joins trade associations and industry committees and seeks leadership roles.
  • Support board and staff efforts to advocate and educate members of federal, state, and local government entities and agencies.
  • Represents Caritas of Austin at external events.
Development and Communications
  • Assist with the development and implementation of special projects.
  • Contribute to development strategy and support research and proposals
  • Performs other duties as required.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Strong government contacts at local, state, and federal levels
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good judgment and ability to work independently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Qualifications:
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Public Relations, or related field.
Preferred: MBA or Law Degree
Experience
Ten years of experience in advocacy or public policy
Salary/Benefits:
  • Base Salary Range: $96,000 - $120,000
