Position
SHI NA has an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our global Foundation Relations team. This position primarily requires someone with serious grant writing experience and project management skills. The ideal candidate is also a strategic thinker and resourceful information gatherer, strong communicator, team player, and creative problem solver who is committed to advancing the Institute's mission by building relationships and securing philanthropic resources.
Based in NY, this professional will report to the Director of Foundation Relations and will join a Development team that includes personnel across North America and Israel. This position will be in our NYC office Monday-Thursday and remote on Fridays.
Responsibilities
Write grant reports and proposals, concept papers, letters, and other donor-facing materials for a range of audiences - primarily foundations and Jewish Federations, but occasionally individuals and board members
Oversee a portfolio of institutional funders and interface with funder representatives, trustees, and leadership through in person and virtual meetings and written communications
Manage grant-related projects of varying scope including bringing together relevant colleagues from program and finance teams; staying on track with internal and external deadlines; collecting, organizing, and synthesizing "packages" of materials; ensuring compliance with funder specifications for submissions; and updating files and data management systems
Liaise with finance team on budget needs for proposals and reports including: consolidating budget needs for grants, communicating needs and deadlines to finance team on a regular basis, helping ensure that budget and narrative "stories" align, and formatting and proofreading budgets
Collaborate with program, finance, and evaluation teams to develop clear and compelling materials that are customized for each funder
Brainstorm and problem solve about reporting to donors in new ways, work processes, team development, and managing information?
Identify, research, and cultivate new prospective major funders
Plan and support programs for philanthropic professionals (both virtual and in person)
Other writing and special projects as needed
Qualifications
Superior writing and editing skills with 4+ years of experience in grant writing
Able to effectively balance efficiency with outstanding attention to detail in both writing and processes
Exceptionally organized and adept at time management with the ability to manage several deadline-based projects simultaneously while remaining flexible to shifting priorities
Proactive and resourceful self-starter, thorough information-gatherer, and narrative storyteller
Collaborative, team-focused approach and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues
Comfortable navigating budget documents as part of grant deliverable packages
Willingness to learn and integrate feedback; adaptable to the needs and preferred writing style of the organization
Expert user of Microsoft Word and comfortable working in Excel; familiarity with SharePoint and Salesforce or similar database management experience a plus
High comfort level working both in-person and virtually with colleagues
Knowledge of the American Jewish philanthropic environment and similar organizations strongly preferred
Ability to travel domestically a few times a year as needed to participate in staff retreats or observe programs; potential occasional travel to Israel
Salary range and benefits: $80,000 -$110,000, commensurate with experience. Very competitive benefits package.
