Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The overall role of the Foundation Relations Director position is to grow private foundation revenue by identifying, securing, and stewarding grant opportunities for Fountain House from new foundation prospects and current partners. This position will cultivate relationships with institutional funders and other external partners to build support for Fountain House and its mission to help people living with mental illness to overcome social isolation and build the community and the resilience needed to thrive in society.
Shift: Monday - Friday 9AM - 5PM with some flexibility as needed.
Salary: $100k- $110K
Location: New York offices - Hybrid with some days required to be in-house.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prospecting, Cultivation and Stewardship

  • Steward an existing portfolio while researching and responding to new opportunities that align with the agency's mission, goals, and existing programs. This includes overseeing the recognition and stewardship process in coordination with a grant writer and development associate. i.e., acknowledgment letters to foundation supporters etc.
  • In coordination with a grant writer, ensure that the production and submission of all external funder communications (LOIs, grant proposals, grant reports, etc.) are of exceptional quality and persuasive to funders. (This position will require the Director to both coordinate and participate in the writing process; therefore, an individual must possess strong writing skills.)
  • Supervise a Grant Writer creating goals and work plans that are in alignment with the annual fundraising plan.
  • Collaborate internally within the Development team and externally across departments, while leveraging Board connections, to strategically plan how to approach prospects and opportunities.
  • Analyze and assess qualified prospects to determine which opportunities to pursue. This includes creating funding profiles that provide a high-level summary of the funding opportunities to be shared with other departments actively involved in determining whether to move forward with the application process.

Data and Process Management
  • Ensure compliance with grant agreements and complete all required foundation grant reporting, including narrative and financial reports, working with program, research, finance, and other staff to ensure timely submission.
  • Manage all renewals of current foundation grants in coordination with the grant writer.
  • Record and track all activity including maintaining and regularly updating the calendar of foundation deadlines (i.e., due dates for grant applications, reports, letters of inquiry, etc.) and progress in Salesforce database, including prospecting, moves management, pipeline of opportunities/deliverables, grant management/admin/filing, etc.

Other duties
  • Contribute to the Development/Fundraising Strategic Plan and strategic planning process.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and lead site visits with foundation prospects and partners.
  • Host/attend meetings and events and develop/deliver presentations with foundation prospects and funders.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Strong written communication skills, presentation skills, analytical skills, and the ability to create excellent content and persuasive narratives, including a proven track record of success writing winning proposals with state or federal agencies.
  • Ability to inspire others with respect to the agency's mission, vision, & values, commitment to equity and social justice, and intersectional work.
  • Knowledgeable in private foundation application submissions, with impeccable attention to detail.
  • Extensive project management experience with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines under high-pressure situations.
  • Experience in creating annual fundraising plans, and leading and motivating fundraising teams to execute projects.
  • Experience in donor databases, such as Salesforce or similar CRM, as well as Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.) and internet research and prospecting skills.
  • Experience with, and/or knowledge of, the public health, social justice, and mental health fields

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND CREDENTIALS
  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in grant writing, grant management, or related work within the field of nonprofit development/communication
  • Minimum five years of experience in non-profit work, relationship management, and foundation experience.
