SUMMARY:
The MPRB's Golf Department is seeking a well-rounded Golf Course Manager to direct and manage one or more Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Golf Course. Perform high level leadership, management and administrative work developing and coordinating a variety of routine work on Golf Courses, including pro shop and grounds to fulfill the organization's mission in serving the community.
Established in 1883, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) oversees a renowned urban park system spanning 7,059 acres of parkland and water. Featured among its 185 park properties are 55 miles of parkways, 102 miles of Grand Rounds biking and walking paths, 22 lakes, 12 formal gardens, 7 Golf Courses and 49 recreation centers. The MPRB is proud to provide services, programs and activities that meet the park and recreation needs of diverse communities and ensure race equity, gender inclusion and universal access. Altogether, MPRB properties receive about 30 million visitors annually, and employs approximately 617 full-time and 1,400 part-time and seasonal employees.

What You'll Do
  • Responsible for the overall management of site specific Golf Course operations.
  • Effectively plan, coordinate and direct revenue producing golf operation to ensure the mission goals, policies and priorities of the MPRB are incorporated into the operation and maintenance of the facility, programs and services.
  • Develop programs that enhance rounds and revenues for the Golf Course that include promoting league play, selling outing/event play, and increasing daily fee play that includes marketing to all types of potential golfers for the facility(ies) to serve a diverse and broad constituent base.
  • Effectively lead and manage operations for Golf Courses that promote highly respected facilities, services and program offerings, including planning and executing daily operational oversight, promoting excellent customer service, identifying and implementing safety practices.
  • In collaboration with the Director, develop proposed Golf Course(s) budget and manage the Golf Course(s) approved budget, including managing performance goals; monitoring revenue and expenditures to assure sound fiscal control and effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, and equipment; adapting plans as necessary to meet long term goals; managing and maintaining operational statistics; recommending capital improvement and rehabilitation projects.
  • Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, develop and discipline subordinate employees for development of a professional and support staff with a high degree of competence and sound judgment to perform work effectively, efficiently and safely. Ensure supervision and discipline administration are aligned with Civil Service Rules and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Provide strategic leadership of the Golf Courses resources so the operation demonstrates best practices and fully support the current and future needs of the MPRB
  • Assist MPRB in identifying and addressing the park and recreation needs of underserved and under-represented communities.

What To Bring
Need to Have:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Parks and Recreation, Golf Course Management/Administration, Recreation Administration, Business Administration or closely related field.

--OR--
  • PGA or LPGA Class A Membership (membership must be current and candidate must maintain membership while employed).

--OR
  • Equivalent combination of professional certification and management experience in golf management.
AND
  • Increasingly responsible experience in Golf Course operations and facility management: at least four (4) years.
  • Increasingly responsible experience in leadership, management and administration: at least three (3) years.
  • Experience supervising others: at least five (5) years.

--OR--
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college with a major in Parks and Recreation, Golf Course Management, Recreation Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field.
  • Increasingly responsible experience in Golf Course operations and facility management: at least six (6) years.
  • Increasingly responsible experience in leadership, management and administration: at least five (5) years.
  • Experience supervising others: at least seven (7) years.

  • An equivalent combination of related experience and education and training may be considered.
Nice to Have:
  • Class A PGA Member or comparable LPGA certification with at least 2 years of experience at a public Golf Course.
Licensing Requirements:
  • Certified Food Service Manager within 12 months of hire.

Skills Crucial to Success in This Role:
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles and best practices of golf industry operating standards and procedures, including grounds, food and beverage, leagues, lessons, events, tournaments, and pro shop.
  • Knwoeldge of contemporary principles and best practices of personnel management and supervision.
  • Knwoeldge of contemporary principles and best practices of accounting, budget preparation, and analysis of financial data.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership and support toward the successful and effective performance of staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful, and productive working relationships.
  • Ability to negotiate effective and appropriate solutions to difficult conflicts.
  • Ability to set appropriate priorities while coordinating multiple projects and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Outstanding customer service principles and practices and standards for a diverse customer base.

INSURANCE
Health insurance
Eligibility for benefits begins the first of the month following employment date. The MPRB offers eligible employees with a choice of six provider networks, allowing you to select the best option for you. Available plans include Medica Choice Passport, Medica Elect, VantagePlus with Medica, Park Nicollet First with Medica, Ridgeview Community Network powered by Medica, and Clear Value with Medica.
Enhanced mental health services
MPRB employees and their family members covered by MPRB's medical plan will each have access to up to 20 visits for mental health services covered at 100%. The enhanced mental health benefits will include the first 10 office visits, including evaluations and diagnostic and treatment services, and 10 intensive outpatient program visits per year per person with an in-network or out-of-network provider at no charge. After the 20 visits, regular plan benefits and coverage will apply.
Employees Assistance Program
All MPRB employees - whether covered or not by the MPRB's employee medical plan - have access to the , which provides confidential services to help employees and their family members deal with a wide array of issues. Employees can speak virtually or in-person with an EAP representative.
Dental insurance
The MPRB offers dental insurance through Delta Dental of Minnesota and pays 100% of the monthly premium for eligible employees.

The MPRB offers long-term disability insurance, which helps to replace income for employees who are unable to work as a result of illness or injury, and pays 100% of the monthly premium for eligible employees.

Eligible employees may choose to participate in the Metropass transportation program. The program allows eligible employees to enroll in a pass for unlimited bus or light rail rides at a discounted price.
LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Tuition Reimbursement
The Tuition Reimbursement Program allows employees who take courses for credit and approved in advance which have a direct relationship to their job or which provide advancement opportunities within the MPRB, to request tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of coursework and proof of payment. This program is only available for reimbursement of tuition for course credit at accredited educational institutions. Eligible employees can receive up to $5,250 in reimbursement each calendar year.
Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program
The MPRB is a qualifying employer in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.
