Under supervision from the Recreation Enterprise Manager, provides administrative and technical supervision for turf maintenance and course improvement of the 225 acre Golf Course and surrounding property. Responsible for equipment replacement schedule including on-going service, maintenance and repair of all turf vehicles and mowing equipment. Provide input to the Recreation Enterprise Manager for the development of an annual maintenance budget. Superintendent responsible to manage maintenance expenditures to benefit facility's financial stability.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
MAINTENANCE:
Maintain and administer written maintenance standards and systems for presenting exceptional course conditions every day, including:
• Daily course set-up, cup setting and rotation, tee marker location and rotation, water coolers, and trash removal
• Turf conditioning for greens, fairways, tees, rough and native areas
• Bunker maintenance, drainage and conditioning
• Wear pattern management
Maintain and administer a comprehensive and environmentally responsible integrated turf management program including:
• Cultural practices ensuring healthy turf
• Irrigation schedule and levels
• Fertilization schedule and levels
• Pesticide program
• Integrated pest management program
Maintain and administer equipment maintenance schedules based on manufacturer's recommendations to ensure safe operation, minimize repairs and maximize usable life of all equipment.
• Administer equipment replacement/addition schedules
• Service vehicles and mowing equipment per manufacturer recommendation
• Diagnose, repair, or schedule repair service for vehicles and equipment as needed.
• Winter vehicle maintenance
Maintenance schedules are followed and problems are anticipated with repairs made so that interruption in the public use of the Golf Course is minimal and that course conditions are maintained to the highest standards.
Assure all equipment, procedures and facilities associated with Golf Course maintenance meet state and local codes, necessary licenses are obtained and appropriate inspections and reports are prepared.
Maintain Golf Course irrigation deep well, water reuse system and corresponding pumps; includes programming, repairs, and enhancements.
Recommend short and long range facility enhancements including Golf Course renovations and landscapes. Manage the design, coordination and installation of all projects.
Maintain all Golf Course maintenance buildings and surrounding areas including landscapes.
Maintain Golf Course drainage systems including repairs and maintenance.
Maintain an organized work area adhering to the concept of "A Place for Everything".
ADMINISTRATIVE:
Maintain records including:
• Staff training documents
• Equipment maintenance and repairs
• Weather statistics
• Irrigation / Fertilization application
• Pest control applications
• Safety Data Documentation
Develop assistant superintendent to ensure ability to perform all duties and assist with professional advancement.
Effectively delegate work activities and responsibility to assistant superintendent
Communicate effectively with golf operations staff to insure they are informed in advance of any maintenance activities or conditions that may impact the customer experience.
Recruit seasonal staff and administer comprehensive training/evaluation programs and documentation to promote an efficient, informed and motivated staff that is committed to safety and quality.
Provide input to Recreation Enterprise Manager in the development of a detailed maintenance budget.
Approve and purchase all items associated with Golf Course maintenance activities including coding all invoices to insure accurate expense documentation.
Participate in local and national trade associations and keep abreast of industry trends and advancements through research and continuing education.
Maintain a team dynamic with a hands-on leadership approach and willingness to perform other duties as necessary for the success of the organization.
Fosters an inclusive work culture and advances the City's diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Maintain and foster an environment, which facilitates the Exceeding Expectations (professional, responsive, leaders) philosophy of the City.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Two-year turf related degree
Two years' experience as a Golf Course Superintendent and/or five years experience as an assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Minnesota Pesticide Applicator's license (or ability to obtain with 6 months of employment)
Must possess a valid driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in turf management or related degree
Member of Golf Course Superintendent Association of America
Five years experience as a Golf Course Superintendent
Possession or ability to obtain Minnesota Power Limited Technicians Certification within 90 days of the start date.
