JOB TITLE: Manager, Event Security Operations
DEPARTMENT: Safety and Security Department
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Security
FLSA STATUS: Salary, Exempt
ROLE
The Manager, Event Security Operations, is a principal member of the Safety and Security leadership team. The Manager is critical to executing the overall strategy to effectively and efficiently identify, mitigate, prevent, or eliminate unnecessary risk facing the Cubs organization by following an Intelligence-led approach to organizational security. The Manager will help maintain security standards while striving to increase the fan experience. Specifically, this position will lead the Security Operations team which provides event safety and security services to the Wrigley Field campus, provides direct supervision to associate and vendor ingress and egress operations (including scheduling of part-time staff and management of supporting technology), and management of and any contract security companies or personnel providing enhanced gameday and concert security services as contractually defined. The Manager will support all software and hardware components of technology systems utilized to secure the campus, associates, and guests of Wrigley Field and will perform all other duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee a variety of event tasks to include but not limited to staff administration and deployment for all events held on the Wrigley Campus
  • Ensure that the senior supervisor is well-versed in the organization's policies and procedures to include Major League Baseball (MLB) Best Standard Operating Procedure (BSOP) and Department of Homeland Security's Safety Act (DHSSA)
  • Work with Security and HR to identify deviations and any potential corrective actions up to and including terminations
  • Lead the Security Services Ambassador (SSA) Team, specifically all part-time, and seasonal Associates employed by the Chicago Cubs, who collectively provide security service in conformance with Chicago Cubs policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, development, accountability, rewards and recognition, and performance management of SSA Team in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining policies to remain consistent with DHSSA and BSOP requirements as well as all applicable federal, state, and local laws
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Manager to ensure yearly training sessions remain in compliance with DHSSA and BSOP standards
  • Ensure completion of mandatory trainings by Chicago Cubs associates, seasonal or part-time, and documentation within Workday Learning prior to associates being allowed to schedule themselves for an event (major or minor)
  • Deliver best-in-class customer service to all Chicago Cubs associates and guests
  • Collaborate with the Joint Operations Command (JOC) Manager to develop and then lead Emergency Response training and exercises for the SSA Team and organization to include weather-related incidents, event delays, shelter-in-place, lockdown, and evacuation during major events held at/on the Wrigley Field campus
  • Collaborate with Chicago Cubs owned or affiliated facilities to include, but not limited to Sloan Park, South Bend, the Dominican Republic, and related parking structures
  • Collaborate with the City of Chicago on transportation surrounding Wrigley Field and the surrounding Lakeview neighborhood
  • Assist with the development, testing, and deployment of the overall safety and security strategy in cooperation with the Vice President, Security, and work collaboratively with department managers of the Safety and Security Department, as well as, with other leaders of other Cubs entities within Ballpark Operations, Baseball Operations, Finance, HR, IT, and others engaged as partners in execution of that strategy
  • Assist managing all software, hardware, and outside vendor support to core information and security systems, such as cameras, incident management software, C-Cure access control, Genetec, and assist all future security technology improvements and enhancements
  • Assist with any investigative efforts of incidents to include thorough documentation, executing the Cubs' overall intelligence-led safety and security strategy, as well as strategically deploying and directing security resources
  • Collaborate with other departments such as, events, partnerships, sales, and marketing to ensure security requirements are met.
  • Ensure support and alignment for large-scale non-baseball events including concerts, football games, Cubs convention, etc.
  • Manage budgeting, staffing levels, and labor utilization for Security Operations at Wrigley Field Events including any third-party security related contractors used to augment security on the Wrigley Field campus
  • Maintain working relationships with key public sector departments that support Wrigley Field, including but not limited to Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management and Communication
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be available to work the majority of the 81 home games, concerts and large scale events

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 4-year undergraduate degree at an accredited university or college or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience with uniformed Security Operations, including first-hand experience as a uniformed security officer
  • Demonstrated experience with leading, directing, and managing performance of uniformed security personnel, conflict management, rewards and recognition, and safety and security related best practices
  • Demonstrated leadership and personnel management experience with the ability to coach, mentor, motivate and recruit a diverse workforce
  • Demonstrated knowledge of de-escalation techniques, and the ability to serve as the main point of contact for Safety and Security for escalated incidents that occur at Wrigley Field during events (both small and large)
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative and seek proactive solutions to problems and situations before and/or as they arise with little or no supervision
  • Provide analytical insight to day-to-day operations and make measurable change and improvements
  • Demonstrated experience with budget oversight, management, and general accounting
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security technology systems, including but not limited to CCTV project management, access control implementation, security system integration and incident management recording

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience working in an organized labor or union environment
  • Prior hands-on experience in Safety and Security operations
  • Large venue, Sports team and/or Major League Baseball experience
  • Previous public speaking experience
