Position Summary
The Special Event Security Lead reports to the Director of Emergency Management and is responsible for developing security plans in support of individuals, property, and assets during LMU events. The Special EventsSecurity Lead will present a proven track record of being highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to adapt quickly to changing security situations.

Position-Specific Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive security plans for major Special Events in addition to planning and execution of security plans for NFL team training camp and major spectator events hosted on campus.

  • Supervise contract and LMU staff assigned to support or activate Special Event Security plans

  • Works closely with Campus Safety Services partners and event organizers to develop and implement security strategies and protocols identifying potential security risks, and developing strategies to mitigate those risks.

  • Coordinate with other security personnel, law enforcement agencies, and emergency services to develop plans that mitigate risk and facilitate a safe and secure environment.

  • Lead security briefings for leadership, presenting Event Action Plans (EAPs) and an overview of potential security challenges and articulating strategies to mitigate them effectively.

  • Conduct security assessments, including walk-throughs, before and during Special Events to identify potential security vulnerabilities and makes recommendations to improve security measures.

  • Coordinate plans with the event host and other departments (like Parking and Transportation, Facilities Management, Conference & Event Services).

  • Develop thorough Event Action Plans (EAPs) including maps and briefing materials, utilizing the Incident Command System and associated forms to document event plans clearly and effectively, including security plans and strategies.

  • During major Special Events, leads and manages on-site Event Security, overseeing security personnel, addressing security incidents, and actively participating in event meetings.

  • Lead the Event Security Working Group Committee, spearheading the development, compilation, and presentation of comprehensive event action plans in collaboration with key stakeholders.

  • Acquire and manage security personnel and resources to ensure effective event deployment and provide Event Security quotes. Collaborate with the budget manager to ensure cost accuracy, generate quotes, and work within the designated budget.

  • Perform other related duties.

Requisite Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in security management, criminal justice, or a related field or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
  • At least five years of experience in security management in Special Events security, preferably at major sporting venues or other arenas.
  • Requires valid California driver's license to operate university vehicles/carts. Must maintain a "satisfactory" driving record as evidenced by DMV records.
  • Experience establishing spectator screening, creating an effective perimeter, and coordinating K9 sweeps.
  • Experience partnering with sworn law enforcement on security.
  • Experience supervising staff during planning and during the event.
  • Knowledge of security protocols, emergency procedures, crowd control, and risk management strategies.
  • Knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS) preferred.
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) preferred, but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and writing skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage emergencies effectively.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coordinate with multiple entities that may have competing priorities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
  • This position is required to wear an approved duty uniform or appropriate business attire.

This position is deemed as Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Jeanne Clery Act.
This position is deemed a Mandatory Reporter by university policy.

Salary range
$66,560.00 - $75,200.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
