Title: Manager, Employee Relations

Role Description:

The Manager of Employee Relations will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Oak St. Health manages and resolves Employee Relations issues in a fair and consistent manner while helping build a positive and productive workplace culture where employees feel valued and supported. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting HR/People Experience, people leaders and front-line employees by providing advice, consultation and guidance to HRBPs, leaders and employees on the application of Oak St. Health policies, practices. This position will respond to a high volume of routine requests and escalated Employee Relations concerns from leaders and employees, supporting resolution of these issues, while mitigating risk and adverse exposure to the company. This position will oversee escalated internal investigations, lead complex and sensitive cases including Title VII, workplace violence, and other workplace concerns. Reporting to the Sr. Director of HR Compliance, this position will support the Sr. Director of HR Compliance with all Employee Relations and HR compliance activities for Oak St. Health. The Manager of Employee Relations will forge robust relationships with key stakeholders such as HR teams, internal and external legal teams, Compliance, IT security, Safety, and operational leaders across the organization to ensure a comprehensive and consistent approach to Employee Relations and HR compliance.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert consult, guidance and mentorship to leaders, HR Operations, and front line employees on all Employee Relations issues, policy interpretation and questions

  • Provide proactive support and intervention to promote a positive Employee Relations culture, while partnering collaboratively with various cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., HR Business Partners, Compliance, Legal, etc.)

  • Manage Employee Relations case management system for routine Employee Relations tracking, solutions, auditing, and reporting while meeting case management metrics, such as closing cases within a certain time frame and following established case management processes.

  • Manage Employee Relations case management vendor and act as subject matter expert and project manager on all HR process and technology enhancements and upgrades, providing training as required or requested

  • Effectively manage a caseload of workplace inquiries and concerns and be responsible for assisting leaders with escalated coaching, corrective actions and terminations.

  • Engage with external regulatory bodies, consultants, and auditors as needed.

  • The successful candidate will exhibit a professional and calm demeanor with all levels of employees and possess strong interpersonal skills which include conflict management, investigation, and influencing.

  • The successful candidate will need to be able to effectively present and deliver training to leaders, be highly organized with an emphasis on accuracy and able to prioritize and plan their time/resources accordingly in a fast paced, matrixed environment.

  • Act as the investigator on escalated cases when needed and appropriate

  • This role will require the handling of highly confidential and sensitive information and perform other duties as required.

  • Other duties as assigned

What are we looking for?

We are looking for highly motivated professionals with:

  • Minimum of 5 years of human resource Employee Relations leadership is required; multi-site leadership with experience in healthcare is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree or JD in employment law or related field preferred.

  • Dispute Resolution, Mediation, EEO Investigator, PHR/SPHR, CP/SCP (SHRM) certifications or licenses preferred

  • Direct experience managing, advising, and resolving, Employee Relations cases (e.g., performance management, attendance, employee misconduct, employee complaints, discipline and termination).

  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and utilizing Employee Relations case management systems

  • Knowledge of current state and federal employment/labor laws and regulations.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work effectively with cross-functional groups and diverse stakeholders.

  • Enterprise-wide awareness of how one’s work impacts existing organizational practices and strategy.

  • Ability to effectively influence, i.e., commitment vs compliance, and lead inclusively.

  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and adapt approach, as needed.

  • Excellent project management, organization, and prioritization skills.

  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write formal organizational communications.

  • Strong oral communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite.

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn HRIS (proficiency with Workday a plus).

  • Ability to travel as needed.

  • US work authorization.
