Join our team as a Labor & Employee Relations Consultant and be at the forefront of conflict resolution, while fostering a positive workplace culture. Illinois Human Resources (IHR) is searching for two Labor & Employee Relations Consultants to join our team. Both positions will act as a liaison between Illinois Human Resources and campus units, providing support to units and employees on a broad spectrum of labor and Employee Relations areas. One of the positions will support the campus Threat Assessment Team (TAT) in addition to their LER duties.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Consult with and assist departments in the investigation of disciplinary matters and recommend appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with sound and accepted Employee Relations practices.
- Serve as primary and comprehensive support to the campus Threat Assessment Team (TAT) by acting as case manager for weekly TAT meetings, preparing and distributing agendas for TAT meetings, ensuring that action items are completed, and developing and implementing communications plans.
- Advise campus units and employees (excluding faculty), research and interpret a wide range of policies and statutes.
- Participate in various management meetings and offer units guidance on labor and Employee Relations issues.
- Consult with managers and supervisors to identify and resolve problems and recommend courses of action. Develop and deliver training materials that provide guidance to campus HR contacts in areas such as Policy & Rules, FMLA, workplace violence, performance management and appraisals, and the Performance Partnership Program.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, law, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree, preferably in human resources, labor relations, law, or a related field.
Professional experience in Employee Relations, including experience advising decision makers on issues related to performance management, policy interpretation, and compliance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with human resources management principles, theories, and concepts.
- Advanced verbal and written communication and quantitative skills to prepare reports, analysis and documents and deal effectively with people in securing dispute settlements.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and argue persuasively; strong negotiation skills.
- Familiarity with economic and wage data and extensive knowledge of Illinois labor and wage laws, collective bargaining procedures and related legislation.
- Knowledge of policies and practices involved in personnel/human resource functions.
- Familiarity with federal and state employment laws.
- Ability to communicate both effectively both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of University and campus structure, goals, procedures, policies, and practices.
- Demonstrated understanding of college and unit level employment attributes and general human resources operations.
Salary & Appointment Information:
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications. The starting salary for both positions is $70,000, commensurate with experience. This is an on-campus position and is not eligible for fully remote work. Hybrid work options may be available for this position after an initial training period, but with the requirement that onsite availability may be needed at any time with short notice.
