This job contributes to REI’s success by leading REI’s direct marketing programs. Specifically this position is responsible for the development of REI’s direct marketing strategy. This position sets and is responsible for achieving sales driven by direct marketing programs. This position is accountable for determining the customer contact strategy as well as the merchandising and brand messaging content within the direct marketing programs. This position leads, trains and develops a team of experienced direct marketing professionals to plan and produce engaging direct marketing communications that drive sales and profits to REI and increase member engagement and loyalty. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.


Leading the Way

  • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
  • Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages.
  • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
  • Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
  • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
  • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
  • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results.
  • Establishes and maintains visibility within the department.
  • Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action.

Your Planning & Navigating Requirements

  • Leads the development of short-term and long-term direct marketing strategic objectives, including vision for the programs, future roadmaps and enhancements, new technologies and initiatives, and ensuring the programs provide for expected sales and profit growth.
  • Accountable for establishing and meeting annual sales and profit goals for all direct marketing programs.
  • Develops direct marketing customer contact plans (frequency, timing of contacts, versioning and personalization) appropriate to support REI business objectives and maintain the integrity of the programs.
  • Working with appropriate cross-divisional partners, accountable for the development of the content plans for all direct marketing programs, supporting our marketing and merchandising strategies.
  • Communicates direct marketing strategy to key stakeholders through documented marketing plans and the development and distribution of project plans
  • Accountable for the development of direct marketing annual expense budgets and for operating the programs within those budgetary parameters, including original plans and working plans.
  • Acting in accordance with agreed upon RASCI, provides appropriate level of creative oversight to the direct marketing programs. Degree of accountability and decision making will likely differ by program.
  • Ensures direct marketing programs operate in accordance with established corporate objectives and brand position.
  • Provides cross-divisional direction and leadership relating to all direct marketing programs.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to REI legal and privacy counsel on REI direct marketing programs
Responsibilities:
  • 5+ years experience in direct marketing program leadership
  • Experience in staff management, with proven ability to lead, inspire and teach.
  • Bachelors’ degree in a quantitative or marketing field.
  • Masters or MBA preferred
    A solid retail business understanding.
  • Proven ability to compile and interpret results to make recommendations to senior management.
  • Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts.
  • Creates a strong, mutually supportive work spirit and culture where people can do their best.
  • Establishes trust and inspires others.
  • Makes effective organization and people decisions in a manner consistent with REI's values and ethics.

Base Pay Range: USD $111,000.00 - USD $177,500.00 /Yr.
